I have a 2nd iMac that needs repair. Possibly a new HD. To be safe, I want to take 1password off. What is the best way to do that?

You've not told us what version of 1P you are running but, for the purpose of this reply, I'm assuming it's 1P4 or 1P5 for Mac. I'm also assuming that you have in some way already sync'd your 1P data to your first Mac (or, at the very least, have a full current backup of it somewhere other than on the Mac which needs repair).

The first point to make is that you really don't need to delete 1Password from your Mac before it's repaired—at least so long as you have a strong master password. Nobody will be able to access your data without knowing the master password. However if, in an abundance of caution, you really want to eradicate all traces of 1Password from that Mac:

    • Drag the app file to the trash.
    • Take a look at this knowledge base article:

Where does 1Password store its data?

and annihilate those relevant folders too. :) Do note that some of the data locations will vary depending on whether you have the Mac App Store version of 1P or the AgileBits store version.

Thanks very much for the prompt reply! I am using 1P5, sorry I didn't mention it. Right now I sync 1P to my dropbox account, and I worry about that, too. Is there any reason I should be concerned about that? Just curious.

I think this knowledge base article will reassure you about the safety of sync using Dropbox:

Is it safe to sync my data over the cloud?

@atkinsr: Indeed, and the same simple truth actually applies to your data regardless of where it goes: your 1Password data is end-to-end encrypted using your Master Password, so it is needed to access your vault. 1Password is secure by design, not by chance.
