Import mail from Apple Mail via drag&drop

In earlier versions (up to v4) I used to be able to import mails from Apple Mail via drag and drop.
Since v5 this seems not possible any more. What happened?
Best regards, Marcus Oenicke

This has been a problem since the launch of OS X Yosemite. The work-around is to drag and drop first to the Desktop and then into 1P.

Thanks, @Stephen_C and @brenty, that works.
Let's hope there's a way to fix this, because most documents I import are in fact emails with order confirmations or serial numbers and the like.
    Cheers, Marcus

    @mlo ,

I believe this is something that Apple must resolve.

@mrc: Indeed, that seems to be the case, since we didn't change anything in 1Password. It simply stopped working as expected with Mail specifically a while back.

@mlo: But I will say that I find it useful to have details saved in individual fields in the item itself, even if I also attach a document containing the same information. It's simply easier to quickly reference or copy/paste information without having to open the attachment. Just a thought! :)

@brenty: Oh, I do that, of course. I simply like to have the original documents attached for reference.
And if you think of 1P, you don't get a license number but a certificate file. With the complete mail attached, you can't lose that.
In other cases, there's a whole thread of emails or documents and the like.
To me, this is one of the most important features compared to other password safe apps, apart from the excellent UI (and a lot of other things ... ;-).

@mrc: I'm quite aware that this is an issue brought about by Apple. But perhaps there is some other mechanism like a plug-in to Mail. DevonThink uses this way, for instance.

And if you think of 1P, you don't get a license number but a certificate file. With the complete mail attached, you can't lose that.

@mlo: That's an excellent point! And for that reason, we have 1Password automatically add the license file to a "1Password" Software License item in the app. It's not something that we use often, but I think that's pretty cool. And if you sync the vault with the license to a new Mac, it will actually be able to use it to register itself. :sunglasses:

So now that we've got that part down, we'll certainly continue to explore other ways to improve attachments in future versions. Thanks so much for bringing this up! :chuffed:

@brenty: Thanks for pointing this out - I didn't realize that the 1P license file is automatically added to License Items.
And the auto-registering mechanism is pretty cool, indeed!

  • @mlo Glad to see that brenty was able to help you out with this. :) If you have any other questions feel free to let us know!
