If you follow the instructions in this link you will be able to see what version of 1P for Mac you are using—including whether it came from the Mac App Store or the AgileBits store.

  • Hey @pdmeschwarz! Were you able to figure out which version of 1Password you are using by following the guide that Stephen linked to? I checked our system and wasn't able to find any purchases from the AgileBits Store under the email address you used to sign up here on the forums so you may have indeed purchased the app through the Mac App Store. Sorry to hear updating isn't quite going as planned, though. Did you make sure that you're signed in to the App Store with the Apple ID you used to purchase the app originally? We don't have any records of App Store purchases, so we can't look that up for you.

Let us know what we can do to help out. :)

Thank you for your reply. I did confirm my 1P came from app store based on Stephen's recommendation and I did check with the App store and I did purchase from them but requested a refund because it was not working correctly thinking I would purchase from Agilebites. Apparently I did not do that either. So I now have an app that neither will support. Now I plan to go back to App Store and re-purchase 1P.

I have a nasty feeling that the App Store won't let you repurchase an item that has once been refunded, but you can only try. I would be quite glad to have that option myself on one app.

And, of course, nothing stops you from buying direct from AgileBits even if you have not done so previously.

@pdmeschwarz What danco said about the Mac App Store is correct: Apple unfortunately does not allow you to purchase an app again once you return it. However, we'd be happy to help you out with this a bit more over email. Could you get in touch with us at support+forums@agilebits.com and include a link to this thread in your email? Also post back here with the BitBot confirmation number you receive so we can connect the dots. :)

I am experiencing a similar issue. I purchased 1Password through the App Store on 2/4/15. My new computer was experiencing some bugs, so the IT department at my work refreshed the computer and I could no longer find the certificate to reinstall the app. The App store issued me a refund (which I did not request) on 3/1/15, but I asked that they not that same day, because I had found that I was trying the App store with the wrong Apple ID. The refund went through anyway apparently. I say apparently, because I only discovered it this month when I received a notification from the App Store that an update was available for 1Password. When I tried to download the update, I received the message that the app had been returned and refunded.

Now, after an HOUR on the phone and on hold with the App store, I have found that I have to delete the app and empty the trash before I can re-purchase the app. I want the Mac Store version so I can access 1Password on my iPhone as well as my Mac. Is there any way I can save all my Passwords on 1Password or port them before I have to delete the app and re-purchase it?

  • Hey @dabowen52,

Thank you so much for posting a good deal of details about your situation. It's great to know that Apple gave you a bit more info on the Mac App Store refund policy and re-purchasing the app. To address your question:

Any data you currently have in 1Password will not be removed if you move the app itself to the trash. Please do not use an app cleaner when removing the old version of 1Password from your computer — this will remove your data. Once you re-purchase the app, you can continue using things as usual. :) Let us know if you have any questions, and how things go!

Things went beautifully! All data is safe and secure once again, and I purchased the app at the App Store without difficulty or complication. Thank you very much for your help and assurances!

  • @dabowen52 Glad to hear everything went well! If you have any other questions, feel free to let us know. :)
