iCloud not appearing in Sync options

iCloud is not appearing in the list of sync options on my Mac. Is this because I purchased direct from AB, not via tha App Store?

How can I sync with iCloud?

Jim

Yes. Since the launch of OS X Yosemite Apple has not allowed non-App Store apps to use iCloud.

You can do it only if you buy 1P5 from the Mac App Store. If you bought from the AgileBits store within the past 30 days AgileBits will refund the price you paid to enable you to buy from the Mac App Store. If your purchase was within that time limit please tell us and someone will come along with to enable the refund.

    I didn't buy it within 30 days unfortunately. :(

Bit of a bummer, as I'd like to move away from Dropbox due to privacy/ethical concerns.

£40 really is a lot of money to get that one feature.

Depending on the devices you need to sync, wifi sync is certainly an option. I use it to sync between my Mac (on the one hand) and my iOS devices on the other and it works seamlessly. However, you can't use it to sync between two Macs, so that may possibly be a problem for you.

Yeah, I sync between 4/5 Macs on different networks and an iPhone.

Any other way for me to Sync, like via SpiderOak?

I actually bought direct as I thought it would maximise the revenue to an indie developer... didn't realise the implications.

    Hi @jdc,

I'm very sorry for the confusion about this! iCloud sync is only available in the Mac App Store version of 1Password 5 for Mac because it uses Apple's CloudKit technology, which can currently only be used by apps sold through Apple's App Store. We'd absolutely love to be able to include that in the AgileBits Store version of 1Password as well, but that's not currently possible. We have more information in these knowledgebase articles:

Unfortunately Apple doesn't currently provide a way to convert a license for the AgileBits Store version of 1Password to the Mac App Store version. So if you wanted the Mac App Store version of 1Password, you would need to purchase that separately.

I just wanted to mention that Dropbox is also a great sync option. It's how many of us here have always synced our 1Password data. 1Password is secure by design and your 1Password data is end-to-end encrypted, so with regard to security there's no difference between syncing 1Password data with Dropbox or iCloud. 1Password simply doesn't depend on the security of either to protect your data.

Dropbox also has the advantage that it can be used to sync secondary vaults, and also share vaults with friends, family, and co-workers (it's not currently possible to share anything between iCloud accounts). And it's the only sync solution that works across all platforms supported by 1Password: Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android.

Any other way for me to Sync, like via SpiderOak?

Technically, you could use the Folder sync option in 1Password on your Mac to sync to a local folder that syncs with SpiderOak (this would be similar to how Dropbox sync works). That will work to sync your 1Password data between multiple Macs, but Folder sync isn't supported in the iOS version of 1Password. However, you could use Folder sync & SpiderOak between your Macs, and use Wi-Fi sync between one of your Macs and your iPhone. It's not as simple of a setup as using Dropbox sync everywhere, but it's certainly a viable alternative.

Thank you, we truly appreciate that! :) However, we really just want our customers to enjoy 1Password regardless of where they purchase it. I'm sorry iCloud sync isn't currently available in the AgileBits Store version, but hopefully my information here is helpful. And in case it helps, an advantage of buying the AgileBits Store version is that we're able to give you a discount on future purchases from us, which we aren't able to do through the Mac App Store.

We're here for you if you need anything else! :)
