I was unable to download 1Password...the $69 version.
I tried three times to download and install the 1Password for Mac. Each time I got a message that "Password failed to connect to 1Password mini" I have purchased a license and have the key. I also received a confirmation e-mail.

Hi @philjoanna,
Thanks for becoming a 1Password customer, and I'm sorry for the trouble! Let's get you squared away, here.
I wonder: did you download 1Password from us, or did you purchase it from the Mac App Store? I ask because when you download an application from the internet (i.e. - from us), the OS flags the download and it's quarantined. Then, when you first launch the application you're warned about it being downloaded from the internet and you're asked if you want to open it or cancel. You've probably seen this before and just click Open. Normally it works fine, but we've seen that in El Capitan that the Open process doesn't seem to work completely. The notable thing that is supposed to happen is that the quarantined flag is supposed to be removed and the application is allowed to open. In your case, and a few other cases I have seen, the application is allowed to open, but the helper application is not allowed to open, which is what that error message above is indicating.
You can fix this by doing the following:
- Ensure that you only have a single copy of 1Password on your Mac, installed in the system
/Applications
folder. - Quit all web browsers that have the 1Password extension installed.
- Open the Terminal app (found in your Mac’s Applications folder under Utilities, or with a Spotlight search).
- Copy this single line command, then paste it into the Terminal window you just opened:
xattr -d -r -s com.apple.quarantine '/Applications/1Password 5.app
- Tap the return key to run that command.
- Open 1Password 5 app.
Here's that command again in case the formatting above makes it tough to copy:
xattr -d -r -s com.apple.quarantine '/Applications/1Password 5.app
If 1Password still fails to open after that, please use the 1Password Troubleshooting tool to generate a Diagnostics Report:
https://support.1password.com/diagnostics/mac.html
Attach the report file with an email to: support+forum@agilebits.com
Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, and do include a link to this discussion and your forum username in the email.
You'll receive an automated email reply with a support ticket ID. Please post that ticket ID here so we can track down your email more quickly and suggest what to do next to fix this problem.
Thanks in advance!

I cannot open 1Password 5.3. I purchased both the Mac and Windows versions. I had to go to an Apple store to have the El Capitan OS upgrade installed. Apparently the Application Store Upgrade was missing several modules. Later that day, Apple sent out a fix that helped subsequent users. I now have El Capitan, but still got the same message as others "1Password failed to connect to 1Password mini". Please help. I saw the command that you provided, but, being new to Mac don't know where to paste the command to correct the problem ("terminal...?").

Please take a look at this AgileBits post, which explains clearly, and illustrates, what you need to do.

Hi @philjoanna,
I'm sorry you've been having trouble opening 1Password! It looks like you started 2 different forum discussions for this problem, so I've merged them into the same thread to avoid confusion. I hope you don't mind!
The solution from Lars is the same as the solution from the link Stephen gave you, so you should be able to follow one or the other. Does that help to solve the problem? If not, please try the suggestions here: Troubleshooting “1Password failed to connect to 1Password mini”
Let us know how it all goes, thanks! :)
