Recommended way to store company acct info with products (and serial numbers)

What is the recommended way to store company account information with product information (like model and serial number) ? For example, I have several Western Digital drives so I want to store id/pwd/contactemail and then model/serialnum of each drive. Then I have Apple or Microsoft devices so again I have the account userid/pwd, the contact email address (and maybe even a physical address), and the devices and s/n info. And the email addresses and physical addresses may be different between the WD and the M-S. Just wondering which of the many types of records you recommend for this sort of thing.

Thanks !

I use secure notes for that sort of thing.

  • Hey @cdrowell,

Great question. There are various ways you can go about this. The first, and possibly simplest, is to use Secure Notes, as Stephen mentioned. These can contain lots of random bits of information, from the code to the shed in your backyard to various other information you deem sensitive.

The second, more organized way of doing this is to create separate items for these accounts and serial numbers. As of version 5.4.1, there are 17 different categories in 1Password. The Software License item may be useful for your case, as well as the Membership one. You can always add custom sections and fields to them to make things a bit more custom fit to your situation. Actual items can be nice because they have syntax and fields for each bit of info and can be easier to peruse. If you decide your info is a bit outside the bounds of the categories already provided in 1Password, simply use a Secure Note. You can even attach files up to 5 MB. :)

Let us know if you have any other questions!

OK. I'm on Mavericks so probably have fewer categories but that's fine. thanks.

    Hi @cdrowell,

You should have all the same categories available to you in 1Password 4 as we have in 1Password 5, these categories have been set for a while due to the Agile Keychain design. One thing we do is we hide empty categories in the sidebar so check in the submenu of File > New Item for a complete list of the available types.

OK Thanks. I think this one is "closed".
