Suggestion: Encrypt files on your mac
Hi All,
Im using Encrypter Pro. You can add files into it to encrypt them. You can decrypt them by unlock them. And lock then so they encrypt again.
Would be zo nice to have this feature in 1Password.
Idea: drag files into the app to encrypt them. So there is no container where all files wil put in, they stay at there own place. When encrypted the icon maybe can be changed into a known understandable icon so you see its encrypted.
Try Knox. but this app use a container to put files in, different method.
1Password Version: 5.4
Extension Version: 5.4.540046
OS Version: 10.11
Sync Type: iCloud

Hi @poudenes,
Thanks for writing in. That's an interesting idea... not something that had occurred to me. So an item in your vault would act as a key to "unlock" items on your disk? I'm curious to know how you would see this working? Would you unlock the files one by one, or would you expect them to all get unlocked/decrypted when you unlock your vault?
You've piqued my curiosity. :)

Maybe something like this:
1) You can drag files one by one into the 1Password app to get them encrypt.
2) In 1Password there is a section "Encrypted files" and you have a list of all files you have drag them in.
3) You can select 1 or more files and push a button to decrypt or encrypt them back.
Or a button to decrypt or encrypt all files in the list.
4) When you delete a file from that list, then it become normal again.Reason to encrypt and decrypt every time in 1Password is to get most secure option. Because when 1Password get back into lock modus only the file you have decrypted will accessible, Give Password again in 1Password and you can change this again in the list of files.
This option gives everyone the option to protect some files on the mac, when you not open the 1Password and give the password you cannot open the files that are encrypted by 1Password.
Maybe also add the list of files into the icon at Notification bar. Add password and then you can select what file you want decrypt or encrypt again.
Lots of encrypt and decrypt but hope my idea is clear now :) ... and who knows other people love the idea :) I DO !! :chuffed:

@poudenes: That sounds kind of like Boxcryptor, which I enjoy, except encrypting arbitrary files anywhere on your computer. I'm not sure that this is something that would be appropriate for 1Password, as it is really designed to have everything where you can easily find it: in your vault. Even offering a list of encrypted files doesn't help the problem of deleting one of these arbitrary files somewhere on your computer. And then we'd probably expect 1Password to back all of these up. It gets very messy very quickly.
That said, it's certainly something we can consider if we're to take 1Password in an entirely new direction in the future. But this really sounds like a separate product. And keeping 1Password simple enough for our less-tech-savvy family members to use is really important to us on a visceral level — literally, the screams of frustrated loved ones struggling with technology will forever haunt my dreams. :dizzy:
