Trouble moving 1Password.agliekeychain from Windows to Mac
I want to move my 1Password data from Windows v4 to Mac v5. I'm unable to use the Dropbox option as my employer restricts Dropbox.
One of the options I found in the forums was to copy the 1Password.agliekeychain (from the location in the General tab in Preferences on the source machine - aka Windows) however I received errors on every file "the properties can't be copied to the new location" when copying to the thumb drive. I'm thinking that's not a good thing.
Since I'm limited on options to sync, is there a way to move the file instead?

Hi @LynnQ,
Thanks for taking the time to write in. Let's see if we can get you up and running.
You're right that in 1Password for Windows, going to Preferences > General will show you the location of the Agilekeychain file it's using on your disk. You're also right that you could use a thumbdrive to get that agilekeychain over to your Mac.
I'm a little rusty with my Windows usage as I'm a Mac developer, but here's what I just did on my test PC:
- Opened Preferences > General to see where it's storing my agilekeychain. In my case it's written out as
C:\Users\Richard\Desktop\Demo.agilekeychain
- I highlighted that path, everything except the last part... the part that has the specific name of the agilekeychain file. So in my case that's
C:\Users\Richard\Desktop\
- I used ctrl-c to copy that to the clipboard
- I opened up the Start menu, and chose Run...
- In the little Run window that showed up, I pasted (ctrl-v) the path into the text field and hit Enter/Return.
- This opened up an Explorer window showing all the files in the directory that contains my AgileKeychain file. I can then go and find my agilekeychain file in there.
- Once I've found the actual AgileKeychain file, I can now copy it over to a thumb drive.
You should now be able to copy that to your Mac.
You should know that 1Password for Mac works a little different than 1Password for Windows. With 1Password for Mac, unless you're wanting to sync with another device, you won't need the agilekeychain file beyond the first import. So once you've set things up you can consider deleting the agilekeychain file as you shouldn't need it anymore.
I hope this helps.
Rick

Hi Rick, your response helped me out! The key step appears to have been that I needed to copy the folder from somewhere other than the folder it is currently in. When I moved it to the desktop, then copied the file, it worked on the Mac.
Thanks for the tip about not keeping the file since I can't sync or use Dropbox. In my non-work life, we do use Dropbox and love being able to access from anywhere and all my devices. Any chance Box will be supported at some point? :-)
Thank you so much for the help.

Hi @LynnQ,
On behalf of Rick, you're welcome! I'm so glad he was able to help you get your Agile Keychain copied over to your Mac. Thanks for following up with the good news.
Regarding Box sync support, we are looking into the feasability of several third-party sync solutions, and Box is one of them. I'll add your vote for this feature in our internal issue tracker. Thanks for letting us know you're interested in this. :) Cheers!
