I followed the instructions and it keeps wanting me to purchase.

I upgraded to 1Password 5, so I think I need a license file, but when I request my license file, it just sends an email with a license code. When I go to 1Password > License... it asks for a FILE and there is no place to enter a code.

I need my license FILE, please send!

If your last purchase was for 1Password 3, you're going to need to pay for an upgrade to version 4. Version 5 was free to all registered users of version 4. You can get a generous discount for the upgrade by goi g to the AgileBits web store, clicking on the button for upgrades, and entering your license key for version 3 in the resulting field.

    Hi @studio2055,

Thanks for contacting us with your license question here in our support forum. What hawkmoth said is true. I've check our sales records and found only a 1Password 3 license registered to your email address, so it looks like you haven't yet purchased a license for 1Password 4/5.

Your version 3 license never expires, and v3 actually works pretty well on Yosemite (though not so well on El Capitan), so if you'd prefer to keep using v3, you're welcome to do so. You can download it from the Legacy section near the bottom of our Downloads page.

But for best results, you'll probably want to go ahead and upgrade to version 5 if you can.

Let us know if you have any further questions. We're here to help. Thanks!

I have purchased a number of licenses. A family license for 6 computers ordered May 2012 and a single license under my name Nanette Newbry. I had to open an "account" today to be able to write in the forum. I'd like to combine all 7 licenses. We're all running Yosemite. 1 Password kept bugging me to upgrade to 5 but now I can't have all the functions that I need. How do I go back to version 3? Right now I don't think I want to upgrade.

    Hi @studio2055,

Sorry for any confusion about the licenses! When I searched our system for the email address from your forum account, I was only able to find the 1Password 3 for Mac license you purchased back in December, 2009 (I also tried searching for your name and found the same license). If you purchased another license from the AgileBits Store with a different email address, you can have that license info resent to you from the "I've lost my license" section of this site.

Please note that if you bought a 1Password for Mac license in 2012, that would also have been for 1Password 3, as we didn't release version 4 until October, 2013. 1Password 4/5 is a paid upgrade from 1Password 3, and if you're interested in doing that, just visit our Upgrade Store and enter your license code to see your upgrade discount and license options.

1 Password kept bugging me to upgrade to 5 but now I can't have all the functions that I need.

Do you mean the 1Password 5 trial period has ended, so you're seeing a "Trial Expired" message? If so, it might help to take a look at this knowledgebase article for more information: “Trial Expired” notice (Mac)

How do I go back to version 3? Right now I don't think I want to upgrade.

No problem! 1Password 3 for Mac is still a great product, even if it doesn't have all the latest bells and whistles. You can download 1Password 3 for Mac from the "Legacy" section at the bottom of our download site.

If you're using Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite), 1Password 3 should still work pretty well. But if you're using OS X 10.11 (El Capitan), please take a look at this forum announcement for some information about a few incompatibilities you may run into with 1Password 3.

If you have more questions about that, please let us know - we're always happy to help! :)

I have the license number for the 6 family users. What you don't have is the record of it. The link you sent me to is asking for the email address of the person who registered the license. He left the company so his email does not work any longer: [redacted]. I don't know how he purchased it. Most likely through your website. I can post the license no. if you need me to. It would be a lot better if you had phone support and I could clear this up in a few minutes rather than hours.

    Hi @studio2055,

I'm sorry that Drew's answer above didn't solve things for you! Please send the licensing details that you have in to support+licenses@agilebits.com and we'll see what we can do. :)
