What version/s of 1 Password will work with El Capitan ?

I currently have 1Password Version 3.8.22 (build 32010).
It seems to have needed an update or something prior to my install of El Capitan anyway, as the icon would not show up in the (browser?) bar on the top of the screen. I tried plug-ins etc which didnt work.
So, now am on El Capitan & would like it to work.

What version/s will work now?
Any help = much appreciated.
Thanks!!

You really want to be running 1P5 on El Capitan. 1P4 was a paid upgrade from 1P3 but the upgrade from 1P4 to 1P5 is free.

Bear in mind you can buy 1P for Mac either from the Mac App Store or direct from the AgileBits store. There are two things to bear in mind:

    1. If you ever want to use iCloud to sync 1P data between your Mac and iPhone you must buy 1P from the Mac App Store because the version from the AgileBits store doesn't support iCloud sync (following changes made by Apple on the launch of OS X Yosemite). Both versions support sync of 1P data by either local wifi or Dropbox.
    2. As you have owned an earlier version of 1P for Mac you should be entitled to an upgrade discount if you buy from the AgileBits store. That discount won't be available if you buy from the Mac App Store.

    Hi @Lainie,

Please let me know if you have any questions after reading Stephen's response!

You can upgrade your existing license on our upgrade page, or if you would prefer to purchase from the Mac App Store and take advantage of iCloud sync, you're welcome to.

We're here to help if you have any further questions.

Thanks for that Megan & Stephen,
I had wondered if there was an upgrade, but it seems (as you've pointed out) that I will have to buy the new version at full price - as I do wish to have iCloud syncing.
    Question answered. Thanks!!

So, ... I just went to the upgrade page, and noticed that the cost varies in 3 ways...
    from Agile bits page $24.99
on the web page for the app store it's $49.99
and on the app store app it's $79.99

Can you share any insights as to why the different between the latter two?

    Thanks again,

    Lainie

@Lainie: Yep! Sorry for the confusion:

    • The App Store has prices in your local currency (possibly also including taxes)
    • The AgileBits Store is in US dollars, and taxes only for Canadian residents
    • We offer upgrade pricing through the AgileBits Store, but this is not possible through the App Store, as it is owned and operated by Apple

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions! :)

I have a similar issue here... and I have been syncing via Dropbox. So if I purchase the upgrade to 1P 5, can I continue to sync with Dropbox and/or through iCloud. My calendar and contacts are synced through iCloud now... Thanks!

    Hi @Vista,

If you upgrade to 1Password 5 for Mac, you'll definitely still be able to sync via Dropbox, as Dropbox sync is available in both the AgileBits Store and Mac App Store versions.

iCloud sync is only available in the Mac App Store version of 1Password 5 for Mac. So if you want to sync via iCloud, you'll need to purchase 1Password from the Mac App Store. Just keep in mind that we can't offer you an upgrade discount through the Mac App Store (we can only do that with the AgileBits Store version).

Hopefully that answers your questions, but please let us know if you need anything else. We're always happy to help! :)

Thanks Drew! And one more question... whether I get it from AgileBits or if I do choose to get it from the Mac App Store, will the upgrade capture all of my existing data? Would not want to have to reenter all of that! I appreciate your advice so I can make the right choice!

    @Vista: Yes! :chuffed:

Would not want to have to reenter all of that!

    Nooo! :scream:

To be clear, all recent versions of 1Password can read .agilekeychain and should automatically open your existing vault when you install them. If for some reason this doesn't happen, let us know! We'll help you get things straightened out without having to re-enter everything again by hand. ;)
