how to switch from AgileBits Store to Mac App Store version to use iCloud syncing?

OK, I'm pretty sure I downloaded 1password from agile bits and then downloaded 1password to my iPhone. I'm running ElCapitan on macbook air. I entered all data into my computer and now want to sync. How do I do this with iCloud...or can't I?

Was just notified that my trial version expired. SO, what do I do? Download from mac store?? Do I have to reenter all data if I do? Where exactly do I go to download and pay for 1password on my mac?

Thanks.

I have now determined that I downloaded 1password from agile. If syncing with iPhone through iCloud is the BEST method, I understand I'll have to download and pay from mac store, which is fine. I'm running El Capitan on my mac so want to make sure that when I install 1password from app store there are instructions so my info will migrate without being lost. Where can I go to find those directions?

    Hi @mfangel,

I'm sorry for any confusion about all that! I can definitely help to clear things up for you.

First, as you already know, the Mac version of 1Password is available from either our AgileBits Store or the Mac App Store. The only major difference is that iCloud sync is only available in the Mac App Store version. That's because it uses Apple's CloudKit technology, which can currently only be used by apps sold through Apple's App Store. If you're interested, we have more information here: Why does iCloud require iOS 8, OS X 10.10, and the Mac App Store?

If you're seeing a "Trial Expired" message in 1Password, that means you currently have the AgileBits Store version installed on your Mac, as there is no trial mode for the Mac App Store version. We have information about that message here: “Trial Expired” notice (Mac)

Aside from iCloud sync, there are some other minor differences between the AgileBits Store and Mac App Store versions of 1Password. In case it helps, we discuss those here: Should I buy 1Password from the AgileBits Store or the Mac App Store?

If you decide to purchase a license from the AgileBits Store, you'll be able to activate the 1Password app that you currently have installed by adding a license file that you'll receive after making the purchase. On the other hand, if you decide to buy the Mac App Store version, you'll install a separate copy of 1Password on your Mac, and it should be able to find your existing data in the AgileBits Store version. It should be very easy, and we explain more about how that works here: Switching to the version of 1Password from the Mac App Store

If syncing with iPhone through iCloud is the BEST method, I understand I'll have to download and pay from mac store

iCloud sync isn't necessarily the best option, as that's more a matter of opinion. Dropbox sync is another option, and that has the advantage that it can be used to sync secondary vaults, and also share vaults with friends, family, and co-workers (it's not currently possible to share anything between iCloud accounts). And it's the only sync solution that works across all platforms supported by 1Password: Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android. So the "best" option might depend on your particular needs.

If you have more questions about that, be sure to let us know - we're always happy to help. :)
