I have paid for version 4, am running version 5 on my Mac. I am getting a notice that my "trial" has expired even though I paid, as I said, for version 4.

This knowledge base article should help you:

    “Trial Expired” notice (Mac)

In essence, you'll need to apply to 1P the licence file you will have received when your purchased 1P4 (although I'm unsure why that didn't happen automatically when you upgraded—because the upgrade from 1P4 to 1P5 was free).

@jamesbray: Unfortunately 1Password has no way of knowing whether or not you've purchased it unless you register the app with your license information.

But the good news is that all you need to do is follow the instructions in the license email you received from your purchase and click the link to automatically install the license in 1Password to register the app and remove the trial restrictions. In that spirit, I've also resent your license information via email.

But to be clear, 1Password for Mac version 5 is a free upgrade from 1Password for Mac version 4. We license our software on a per-platform basis, so for example a single 1Password for Windows license entitles you (and up to 5 other family members living in the same household) to use 1Password on all of your PCs. But 1Password for Mac is a separate purchase. You can, however, use your existing license to get upgrade pricing on another. And be sure to email us at support+licenses@agilebits.com if you have any other questions. Cheers! :)

Unfortunately, this has not worked. The email directions say to go to help and then to enter license key. However, there is no enter license key option. So, now I am unable to perform certain functions. The 1Password still works on my Windows machine. Does anyone have further suggestions? Thanks.

That suggests you are using a 1Password 3 licence key. 1P4 and 1P5 use a licence file. If you look at the screen shots in this knowledge base article you'll see what it should look like:

How do I add my license to 1Password?

You can have your 1P4 licence (which will also licence 1P5) re-sent to you by using the link on this page. All you need to do is to give the email address you used when you bought 1P4.

@jamesbray: 1Password for Windows version 4 uses a license key, which you can enter under the Help menu. 1Password for Mac version 5 uses a license file, which you can enter from the 1Password 5 menu. In both cases this only applies to purchases from the AgileBits Store. If you've purchased 1Password from the Mac App Store, there is no license; you'll have to download the app from there. I hope this helps! :)
