Syncing 2 vaults in shared dropbox folder
First of all, i love your product. In the last year it has proves to be a valuable asset to me. I've also purchased the iOS pro version and everything works perfectly.
Therefore I recommended it also to my wife. She also has an iPhone and a Mac laptop. But the point is that we would like to have each other primary vault to be our secondary vault. So in a case of emergency we can access all our spouses data. To see if this will work correctly, i've installed the free version of 1Password on her iPhone.
I sync with dropbox. So 1 of the solutions (i thought) is to share the folder so she can put her primary vault into that folder. Main benefit of that is that we can acces that folder through our own dropbox account. In the main folder i made 2 subfolders (one for my primary folder and one for hers), and with folder selection i can access/select my primary database. The problem is that i cannot add hers as a secondary vault.
The next problem i have that i can't select her primary vault on her iPhone it will only select mine.
Please advise. And the solution doesn't have to be free ;-) I've decided to buy for her a separate pro package or else she has to sync with my iCloud account which isn't handy enough.
Kind regards Jack

Hi @Jac26,
I'm sorry you're having a little trouble setting up shared vaults! I'm sure we can help to get this all sorted out for you.
In case you haven't already seen it, we have information on how to share vaults in this knowledgebase article. Specifically, those are the steps to share a vault from a Mac. Once you've shared a vault, these steps will explain how to add that shared vault to 1Password on an iOS device.
Now, if I understand, you and your wife each have your own Primary vault - you have your own Primary vault that syncs between your Mac and iOS device, and she has her own Primary vault that syncs between her Mac and iPhone. You want to share your Primary vault with your wife so she can add it as a secondary vault on her Mac and iPhone. Similarly, she wants to share her Primary vault with you so you can add it as a secondary vault on your Mac and iOS device. Is that all correct?
If so, having 2 different shared folders in Dropbox is a great start. Just make sure you've shared both of those folders with your wife, so she has access to both of them from her own Dropbox account. You'll want to sync your Primary vault to one of those folders, and your wife will want to sync her Primary vault to the other folder. (If you don't already have it set up that way, you'll need to do that from 1Password for Mac.)
Once you have that setup as I've described, you should be able to see both vaults within your Dropbox folder on your Mac (and she should see the same in her Dropbox folder on her Mac). You can simply double-click your wife's vault file in Dropbox, and 1Password will prompt you to add that as a secondary vault. Your wife will need to double-click your vault file in Dropbox, and 1Password should prompt her to add that as a secondary vault. At this point, your Primary vault will be the secondary vault on your wife's Mac, and her Primary vault will be the secondary vault on your Mac.
If it all works as described up to this point, you should also be able to add those vaults as secondary vaults on each iOS device (from the 1Password for iOS app, go to Settings > Vaults > Sync Additional Vault > Sync with Dropbox).
If you go through all that but get stuck at a certain point, please let us know exactly what isn't working as described, and on which device(s). The more details you can give us about all that, the better. Thanks! :)

Hi Drew,
Thnx for the reply. I want to start by saying it works now, thnx for the help. But...
I described that my wife only has the iOS version installed and then it doesn't work. The key tip I have, for other users, set this up from your mac environment which is much easier (since I couldn't get it to work from the iOS version).
Second tip. Since there is a difference in functionality (Mac vs iOS) of connecting a secondary vault I would recommend to change the filename from 1password.agilekeychain to ie caroline.agilekeychain (disconnecting and reconnecting etc). The main benefit is that the vault on your iOS device will be named caroline instead of 1password. On the Mac this isn't an issue since you can give the vault your own name.
Indring all of this i experienced a small bug. When coupling the iOS device all but 4 items were moved to the bin. It wasn't a problem but more of a hassle. Benefit of this bug that I cleaned my complete list ;-)
Kind regards and keep up the good work.
Jack

Hi @Jac26,
That's great news, I'm glad it's all set up and working for you now! Sorry for the misunderstanding - you mentioned that you installed 1Password on your wife's iPhone, but I didn't realize you hadn't yet installed it on her Mac. Fortunately you were able to figure it all out anyway! :)
Thank you very much for your tips for other users, I think that will be very helpful for anyone in a similar situation who reads this. And you're absolutely correct - setting up vault sharing is much, much easier to do on a Mac. And some of the things you did (like changing the name of a vault) cannot currently be done from 1Password for iOS at all, so it's necessary to do those on a Mac.

I'm not sure if I understand - do you mean that when you synced a secondary vault to 1Password on your iOS device, all but 4 of the items in that vault were moved to the Trash? I've never heard of something like that happening before, and I can't think of any reason why that would happen unless someone had moved them to the Trash in the Mac version. I may have misunderstood what happened, though. It sounds like you solved the problem, but if you believe that was due to a bug, please let us know some more details so we can investigate further. Thanks! :)
