    Hi @alask620,

I'm sorry for any confusion about that! iCloud sync is only available in the Mac App Store version of 1Password 5 for Mac. That's because it uses Apple's CloudKit technology, which can currently only be used by apps sold through Apple's App Store. We'd absolutely love to be able to include that in the AgileBits Store version of 1Password as well, but unfortunately that's not currently possible. We have more information in these knowledgebase articles:

Unfortunately Apple doesn't currently provide a way to convert a license for the AgileBits Store version of 1Password to the Mac App Store version. So if you wanted the Mac App Store version of 1Password, you would need to purchase that separately. If you purchased a 1Password 5 for Mac license from the AgileBits Store within the last 30 days, we can refund that - but please note that we don't have the ability to give upgrade discounts on the Mac App Store, so you would need to purchase that at the full price shown there.

I wanted to mention that Dropbox sync is also a great sync option. It's how many of us here have always synced our 1Password data. 1Password is secure by design and your 1Password data is end-to-end encrypted, so with regard to security there's no difference between syncing 1Password data with Dropbox or iCloud. 1Password simply doesn't depend on the security of either to protect your data.

Dropbox also has the advantage that it can be used to sync secondary vaults, and also share vaults with friends, family, and co-workers (it's not currently possible to share anything between iCloud accounts). And it's the only sync solution that works across all platforms supported by 1Password: Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android.

Again, I apologize for any confusion about that, but I hope this helps to clear things up a bit. Please let us know if you have more questions about that, thanks! :)

    Hi @alask620,

I see that Laura has helped you out via email with that refund and that you're all set with the Mac App Store version and iCloud. Happy to hear it!

You know where to find us if there's anything else we can help you with. Otherwise, take care and happy syncing! :)

Man that is a real bummer. The iCloud feature was really the only appealing feature. I travel frequently, cannot stand Dropbox and their platform, wifi sync is not a convenient option. I find it hard to believe that with a software company so advanced they do not have a way to fix this nor have it already enabled as an option. Sounds like a little bit of a gimmick to me. Not sure if this is an app I will continue to recommend to friends and family.

    Hello @theflash,

In 1Password 4 we wrote directly to the iCloud folder which is how it worked. It was not an ideal system and Apple improved on it when they released iCloud Drive. Part of iCloud Drive was a framework called CloudKit and the entire point of this framework being a to sync data between instances if your application. This framework though can only be accessed by apps or applications that are obtained from Apple's stores. Any attempt to circumnavigate this restriction would only serve to risk us being removed completely from the App Store. Some times it isn't about it being a technical hurdle - we/you have to accept the features and restrictions when you rely on a third party service. Apple is toying with the idea of widening access and I'm sure we will look into this but this is why currently only the Mac App Store version of 1Password can sync to iCloud Drive.
