I received the email with my reg key. When I click on the link to register, it opens what looks like a Finder window (on a Mac) with everything greyed out. there's no place to enter the #.

    Hi @bam470,

1Password 4 and 5 for Mac use a license file, as opposed to a license key like 1Password 3 used. So that finder window is looking for the license file. The license file for 4/5 is a paid upgrade from version 3. If you have purchased the license for version 5, there will be a link in the license email that says "Click here to Apply Your 1Password License." When you click that link, it will open a page in your default browser which automatically downloads and applies your license to 1Password.

If you have not yet purchased a license for version 5 and would like to, you can enter your version 3 license key for a great discount in our upgrade store.

If you have not yet purchased a license for version 5 and do not want to, you can still use your valid license key in version 3, which you can download from the Legacy section of our Downloads page. A note of warning: version 3 should work pretty well in Yosemite, but if you upgrade your OS X to El Capitan, you may notice several incompatibilities because version 3 has been out of active development for some time now and was not designed for El Capitan.

I hope this answers helps! Please let us know if you have any other questions for us. We're here for you. :)
