How did my upgrade cost me money

After upgrading to El Capitan I also upgraded 1Password. Subsequently, I noticed by chance that I had some 20 days of use before purchase was required for what I thought was a free upgrade. After realising I had used the Agile bits website to upgrade I then accessed the App Store as suggested but ended up having to buy the latest version. What went wrong here and is it possible to obtain a refund or compensation? The application is great but things are becoming confusing. Many thanks

    @vic_s: You'll need to contact Apple directly if you'd like a refund for a purchase through their store. AgileBits does not have access to purchase records there at all.

    It sounds like the problem you're having is pretty straightforward: 1Password has no way of knowing whether or not you've purchased it unless you register the app with your license information.

    But the good news is that all you need to do is follow the instructions in the license email you received from your purchase and click the link to automatically install the license in 1Password to register the app and remove the trial restrictions. In that spirit, I've also resent your license information via email. I hope this helps! :)
