The license information that was sent to me is a code, but the application wants a license file.

Although I own a license for one password, 3 of them actually (mac, pc and iPhone), the mac version is telling me that my trial period has expired. It prompts me to locate a license file, but I only have the license string that was sent to me be agile.

Can someone help with this issue please? Why is the application prompting me for a license file but the license code I received from agile is a string?

    Hello @poc1792,

When we released 1Password 4 we made the decision to make it a paid upgrade. At the same time we moved from using a licence key to a licence file. Anybody that purchased 1Password 4 either as a new user at full price or as an existing user at a discounted upgrade price would find they were emailed a link to download a licence file rather than to copy and paste a licence key like the previous versions. I tried checking out back office but I'm guessing you purchased with a different email address to the one you use here in the forums. If you purchased 1Password 3 at any point in 2013 or later then you are entitled to a free update and requesting your licence information again via the form at the bottom of our AgileBits Support page should be all you need to do. If you purchased 1Password 3 earlier than that and you haven't upgraded then you have two options.

    1. Your 1Password 3 licence is still valid although progress in the OS and browsers means I would recommend reading 1Password 3: Modern browsers and OS X.
    2. Your existing 1Password 3 licence does entitle you to an upgrade price should you like 1Password 4/5 and want to make the move. You can enter your licence key on the following page, Upgrades for Existing Licence Owners to see the discount available.

Does this help at all? If you have any questions at all about any of this please do ask

1P3 used a licence key but 1P4 and 1P5 use a licence file. The upgrade from 1P3 to 1P4/1P5 was paid, not free (although the upgrade from 1P4 to 1P5 was free). Did you ever pay for the upgrade from 1P3? If so, there may be some confusion about the licence at AgileBits attached to your email address.

Edit: After I posted I noticed you'd posted the same question in another thread, already answered by @littlebobbytables. Please don't do that as it makes support difficult and also makes it harder for you to find the answer you need.

@poc1792, I just wanted to add that if you think you should have a license for 1Password 4/5 for Mac but only receive a 1Password 3 for Mac license code via email, please email us about that at support+licenses@agilebits.com in case we need any information (like an email address, receipt, etc) that shouldn't be posted on these public forums. Please also include a link to this forum discussion and your forum username so we can "connect the dots". Thanks! :)
