What exactly do you mean when you say:
how does 1Password auto link to a registered website that I open?
Have you tried putting your cursor over the website name in 1P and choosing open and fill? Alternatively go to the site where you need to log in and, with 1P unlocked, use the ⌘\ shortcut to fill the details. Does that help?
