where to find history of unsaved passwords
I have the latest version of 1PW for the Mac. AppStore version,
When I need a new password for a site, I generate one from 1pw and it is pasted in and the page resolves. Many times I DO NOT get the update the site dialog. Hence, the site has a new password but it does not match the one in the record in 1pw for that site.
I can find it in the "History for _____" but I can not copy and save that to the record. Since it is in there somewhere in 1pw, where do I find where the history is saved so I can update a login manually?
Thanks.
Blessings,

Try looking in the Passwords category. It's the place where 1Password saves generated passwords that are not linked to a specific saved login URL.

Hey @markspaulding,
As Stephen mentioned, you can find these in the Passwords category of 1Password, which is in the left sidebar. To answer your more specific question about the generated passwords history feature, you can actually copy them. You just need to use the shortcut
⌘ Shift C
when you have one selected and it will appear in your clipboard. Additionally, you can use the history to fill a password field on the page by simply clicking the password item. Of course, it may be best for you to find the password in the Passwords category and click Convert to Login to make it a Login item, then add your username as well. Hope that helps. :)0 -
The problem I am having is that the password is NOT in the Passwords category. When I am on the site and select the generate a new password menu, I can see at the bottom a history of passwords generated for that specific login and the date they were created. BUT there is no way to see or copy the password. This is what I need to find.
Thanks.

@markspaulding Perhaps this screenshot can clear up the confusion a bit:
As you can see, there are two passwords generated for Amazon, showing the domain
www.amazon.com
. These were generated and copied or filled, but not added to a Login. You can't reveal the generated passwords in the History tab of the Password Generator in 1Password mini or the browser extension. You can, however, look through the Passwords category in the extension, mini, or main app. The above screenshot specifically shows the main app. There's also the History tab that I was referring to before. Here's what that looks like, with an item selected:
Hopefully those screenshots clear things up. Let us know. :)

Bummer. On the site I was saving a password for, this is the only place that the new password shows up,
It is NOT found in the password category unless it is under another name other than the site I was creating a new password for. This would be unfortunate as well as there are over a 1000 saved password in that category, It would be like finding a needle in a hay stack.
I am glad to know there is no way to reveal a history password, but if 1PW does not always present a dialog when I create a new password to update the login record, the software becomes very much less functional. I have managed a work around by creating a NEW password and letting the previous new password paste from the history menu, but this is an additional and clunky step which 1PW was suppose to solve in the first place!
Since I have been using the software since version 2 or 3 (can't remember, I have thousands of login and passwords collected). I certainly hope I do not have to start data mining these.
Anyway, that for the extra effort and answer.

@markspaulding Okay, we're getting somewhere. :)

It would only be named after the site you saved it on, unless you generated it on another site. It may be worth looking through the Passwords category to make sure it isn't there under a different name or something. I would also recommend checking the Trash in 1Password just in case.
When you generated the password, did you copy and paste it or use the
Fill
function? In the Password Generator, clicking Fill will, by default, copy the password to your clipboard and fill the password fields on the page. If you're not in a browser, a Copy button will appear in place of the Fill button. You can always copy something in the browser extension as well by clicking the down arrow ▾ button and clicking Copy.I am glad to know there is no way to reveal a history password, but if 1PW does not always present a dialog when I create a new password to update the login record, the software becomes very much less functional.
As I mentioned before, you can still copy this password.
- Open the website you generated the password on
- Click the 1Password extension and unlock your vault if necessary
- Click Password Generator
- Hover over History and then hover over whichever password you want to copy
- With that password selected, press
⌘ Shift C
on your keyboard
The password will then be in your clipboard. You can paste it wherever you'd like.

Glad you were able to find a workaround. Clicking the password will fill it, as I said before.
Since I have been using the software since version 2 or 3 (can't remember, I have thousands of login and passwords collected). I certainly hope I do not have to start data mining these.
You shouldn't have to. If the password is generated and used, whether filled or copied, it will be added to the vault in the Passwords category. Of course, if you do notice this issue again, it's best to post a bit more information about your setup: The version of OS X you're running, the version of 1Password you have, and the version of the extension you have as well as the browser it's in. That'll help us further diagnose things.
