Why aren't type size concerns being addressed? (And why can't I email agilebits directly?)
Let me say from the outset that I love 1Password, but I stayed with version 3.8 a long time and dearly wish I could have it back again. Almost everything done since is a DISIMPROVEMENT.
As it stands, the 1P (v. 5.4.1, 541003) interface is UGLY and and a burden to users.
Jonathan Ive may be one of the best industrial designers since Raymond Loewy, but ever since Tim Cook let Ive get his hands on the Mac GUI, it has gone rapidly downhill. His “war on color” is one of the WORST results, something that penalizes users for no reason other than Ive’s artsy-fartsy obsession with making everything white or grey. He’s infected devs with this malarkey….including, alas, Agilebits.
Let me state right now I am going to aggressively pursue a different app to replace 1Password simply because of this. And if I make a change, I will broadcast it to the thousands of people on my mailing lists.
There is NO REASON why1P prefs should not allow a user to (1) change the background color of the app to buff or some other subtle color to make the app stand out on a crowded desktop, (2) INCREASE the font size by increments. (I’d like it 50-100% larger.) And (3) allow users to change the COLOR of individual items in the sidebar to make them pop out.
The type size in 1P is WAY too small. I’ve stumbled around in your forum to read other complaints on this, and it’s fobbed off as being dependent on system preferences.

THIS IS BALONEY. I’ve got hundreds of apps on my Mac, and all the good ones let me change the size of type and color in the app.
(Examples: DragThing, MacJournal, Berokyo, Overflow, BusyCal, Alfred, DevonThink, ad infinitum.)
I do NOT want to change my system prefs, because that makes everything in other apps big and horsey and wastes screen space.
(And yes, I know about the “zoom” control, but if the app isn’t near the middle of the screen, part of it gets cut off. Furthermore, why should I have to access that option because one mutant app like 1P will not show a decent-size font on my 30” HD Cinema Display?)
By the way, something in your switchover prompted me to create a new vault, which I have no use for and I can find NOTHING in your “help” section advising me how to remove it. What gives?
If nothing else, can you please tell me how I can revert to v. 3.8 and still run under the latest OS? Frankly, I should get the money back that I wasted on these disimproved versions.

OMG, you've said what I wish I had the ability to say! I upgraded yesterday because they touted an improved, elegant pixel by pixel improvement. Instead, it looks and acts exactly like the old 1Password. Boring, gray, flat and depressing! 1Password looks exactly like my Things app...boring and gray...with fonts too tiny to see as an older woman with degrading eyesight.
Don't get me wrong...I think 1Password is the BEST password app available. It works at what it is supposed to do, at least most of the time. But there was absolutely no reason for me to waste my money on an upgrade. Upgrading got me nothing. I wish I had my money back. And I would NOT recommend anyone else upgrading!

Hi @mennska,
I'm very sorry to hear that you are so unhappy with your upgrade to 1Password 5 for Mac. I am also sorry that you find the inability to change font sizes frustrating. I have added an upvote on your behalf for including the ability to adjust font size in a future update. While I can't promise anything, I can assure you that our developers review feature requests and bug reports frequently.
You can delete the extraneous vault by doing the following:
1. Go into the secondary vault through the main 1Password menu.
2. Click Delete VaultAnd as for your last point about reverting to 1Password 3.8, 1Password 3 for Mac no longer receives updates. When it stopped depends on how you view a particular update. Version 3.8.22 was released in early 2014 but the last update with what I would view as meaningful improvement was in early 2013 and the last version of OS X that we refer to in the release notes is Mountain Lion. With the recent release of OS X 10.11, aka El Capitan, we are now on a third new version of OS X since we last worked on 1Password 3 for Mac.
So what do all the advances in OS X and the major browsers mean to 1Password 3 for Mac? What follows is a list of known incompatibilities with recent versions of OS X and browsers.
Importing
- The import feature (File > Import...) in 1Password 3 relies on system libraries that were updated in Mavericks. Sadly that update was incompatible with how 1Password 3 used the libraries and you cannot import in 1Password 3 for Mac if you're running OS X 10.9 or newer. The only workaround is to use 1Password 4 or newer to import.
- Dropbox - Your milage may vary here. 1Password 3 may not correctly identify that the Dropbox service is running. If this is the case the Move to Dropbox... button in the General tab of 1Password 3's preferences will not work. If this happens to you the workaround is to right click where it says 1Password.agilekeychain and select the third menu option in the context sensitive menu that pops up (Move Data File To Another Folder...). You can then select your Dropbox folder.
- El Capitan - We recently had reports of item fields becoming invisible when editing an item. The text is still present, it just can't be seen. This has only been observed in El Capitan.
Why does this happen?
All software that runs on a particular platform, like OS X, relies on what the operating system supplies. When a piece of software is no longer being updated but the operating system it sits on is, this can result in compatibility issues. 1Password also needs to work with all the major browsers as well so we're also reliant on compatibility there. As long as all software is kept up to date incompatibility should be infrequent and temporary. If everything a particular piece of software depends on is updated while said piece of software isn't then with each update the possibility of a compatibility issue increases. If you want to run the latest version of OS X, Safari, Chrome, and Firefox the most pleasant experience will be with the latest version of 1Password for Mac.
While we do have email support the fastest way to get a response at the moment is through the forums. While yes, the forums are public it allows us to answer a wide range of support issues. Anything requiring any sensitive data or turns out to be complex we do take to email.
