1Password for Windows security concern: no secondary master password prompt for certain actions

We have been using 1Password on our Mac computers for quite a long time, it works like a charm. But now a part of our team needs it on Windows too. The problem with the Windows version is that it allows to change the master password or even to export the data into an unencrypted file with no prompt for the master password. The Mac version always asks for the master password in those cases. So it's only for the windows version.

1Password Version: 4.6

  • Hi @alexmarch,

Thanks for writing in and telling us about your security concerns.

We understand that this might seem like an issue at first but remember that both export and changing the master password is only possible once you've already unlocked the respective vault with your master password in the first place.

If you follow good security practices by not leaving your PC unattended, and locking it with WINDOWS+L when you have to leave it, locking 1Password before you step aways and setting a short lock-out time, it should not be an issue.

Having said all that, we are going to discuss this on the team and take your feedback into consideration.

Please let us know if we can do anything else for you.
