License entry problems

I was having some problems with 1Password in Lion so I decided to delete it and do a fresh install.

However, now I am finding myself unable to register my license information. When I try to enter my license information I get an error that it is invalid. When I attempt to click on the URL to enter the license info (per the Agile Customer Center) automatically I get this bizarre error in Console:

8/1/11 10:25:40.451 AM 1Password: Exception caught in (/Users/roustem/Projects/onepassword-macosx/1Passwd/LicenseWindow/LicenseController.m:136): Unexpected character N at line 1

When I try to enter the information manually I get the following message:

License information was not correct

Be sure to Copy-and-Paste the name and key to avoid typos. Alternatively, you can click on the Automatic Registration link in the purchase email to automatically add the license.

In Console:

8/1/11 10:33:24.503 AM 1Password: License validation failed for name=<My_Name_Omitted>, serial=<Password_Omitted>

I sent an e-mail off to Agile Support but in the meantime I thought I'd post here in case anyone had any thoughts on what might be going on.

I completely removed all traces of 1Password, rebooted and fresh installed again and now I'm getting a different error when I click on the "Click Here" registration button from the Agile Customer Center:

8/1/11 11:01:09.848 AM 1Password: Error automatically adding license. Error: Error Domain=ws.agile.1Password Code=2002 "License expired" UserInfo=0x107a01b70 {NSLocalizedDescription=License expired, NSLocalizedRecoverySuggestion=The license key you entered is for an older version of 1Password. Please upgrade your license to receive a new key.}.

Mind you, this is from the Agile Customer Center on the button next to my registration information for 1Password 3.

    I am using 1Password 3.7.0.

    Very bizarre...

I wrote another e-mail to Agile about this and then I noticed on the website that e-mail responses are now over 7 days and have been effectively suspended so users should post in the forums!

Anyway, LUCKILY I was able to find a copy of my 1Password license file in a Time Machine backup. The ~/Library/Application Support/License folder itself was completely gone! I had to go back about 2 months in Time Machine to find it.

With the Time Machine backup of the license file restored, 1Password is fully licensed again but still, when I try to test my key by replacing it manually I get the following error:

    Aug 3 09:21:54 ********-***********-iMac 1Password[4137]: License validation failed for name=<*******************>, serial=<****-****-******-******-*******-*******>

It's not that urgent of a matter now that I'm licensed again but I'd sure like to know why the license number given to me by Agile is failing validation.

We appreciate you working with us to clear up the license issue. And thanks for confirming that all is well! :)
  • I have the same problem. Hated Lion so I removed it, reloaded Leopard and 1Password. Requested my license from Agile and get the "The license key you entered is for an older version of 1Password. Please upgrade your license to receive a new key."
I couldn't find the license using Time Machine like the user above.
    Thanks
  • Hi Cosber,

Could you please shoot us an email to support@agilebits.com from the email address you used to purchase 1Password?

    Thanks
    Ben
