@GTimBama: I hope you don't mind, but I've split you off into a separate discussion since the solution will be specific to your system.

Unfortunately without some basic information it's hard to say what might be going wrong and how we might right it! Please tell me the OS, 1Password, and device versions you're using, the exact steps you're taking, and what is (or is not) happening the way you expect so we can figure out the best plan of action.

The more information you can give, the better. For instance, you said it doesn't work in Chrome. Does it in other browsers? Restart Windows to see if that helps. let me know what you find. Thanks in advance! :)

@GTimBama: I noticed you created another discussion as well, so I've merged it here. SO far it sounds like you're using Windows 10 and 1Password 4.6.0.604. Can you tell me which version of Chrome you're using, and if you have any success in other browsers after restarting?

I've just upgraded to Windows 10 and the normal keyboard shortcut (Crtl+) no longer works on any web page. This is repeatable, is not helped by reboot, etc. I'm running 4.6.0.604 of 1Pwd and x64 version of Win10. Real hassle to use now...

BTW, forgot to mention this occurs on Chrome, Edge, Firefox - so looks like Win10 issue and 1P, not browser specific

  • Hi @eelliott,

First, does clicking on the 1Password icon in your browser work to open up 1Password menu?

If yes, have you try re-configuring the shortcut in 1Password to see if it works? To do this:

    1. Open the main 1Password program, unlock, and go to the File Menu > Preferences > Login
    2. Next to Login keyboard shortcut, change the shortcut to something else, try Control + Shift + Alt + P and press OK to save it.
    3. Go to the Help Menu > Restart 1Password Helper
    4. Restart your browser and try the shortcut on a site now, does it work? If yes, change it back to the default shortcut to see if it works.

By the way, we do not support Edge, so it is limited to Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and IE11 in 1Password 4 for Windows.

Thx for help. Clicking on the 1Pwd icon DOES NOT WORK. I get an error "Looking for 1 Password Helper"

What do I do to try to get that working? I normally only use Chrome...

  • Hi @eelliott,

If 1Password Helper is not running, then shortcuts won't work either.

Open the main 1Password program and go to the Help Menu > Restart 1Password Helper.

Restart your browser and see if 1Password works now. If not, can you tell me which anti-malware solution you're using?

Ok thanks. It did need restarting (said it wasn't 'installed' properly??) but after restarting seems to work ok, at least on Chrome. A couple of notes: after the restart, the shortcut still didn't work, but clicking on the 1P icon in Chrome brought up the dialog saying vault was locked. Usually if the vault is locked that notice will appear right after using the shortcut... I then unlocked the vault, but only the generic pop-up menu shows up: no auto-fill of the login credentials.

I then closed the pop-up, reopened the desired web page, again tried the shortcut and this time it worked. Appears there is a lack of consistency of how the 'helper' works?? I'm going to keep testing..

Just FYI I use Anti-Malware Bytes Premium. I also had their beta of Anti-Ransomware installed but had to remove it - it fails totally under Windows 10 - I'll put it back once they issue a release that works on the new OS.

  • Hi @eelliott,

MalwareBytes's products has caused some issues before with 1Password, keep an eye on it if you see it again.

I've been experiencing this regularly for many months now (latest versions of Chrome, Windows 10). If I disable the 1Password extension in Chrome, then re-enable it, the Ctrl-\ shortcut starts working again.

Note that I'm not restarting the 1Password helper.

    Hi @dmorrison,

Did you reach out to us about this? Your post is the first one on this forum, so we'd like to look into the issue. This is definitely not a normal issue and based on our current support queue, very little % of users are writing in about that issue and none of us have this issue.

Hi - thanks for responding so quickly. I didn't contact support separately from this forum post.

I didn't mention before that I have the "Symantec DLP Extension" installed in Chrome (by enterprise policy). I've seen elsewhere on the forum where antivirus extensions can cause problems with this. Thoughts?

  • Hi @dmorrison,

I'm not familiar with that specific extension, so I don't know if it could cause this but there's a chance that it may do that.

We've seen a few security features like that blocking or filtering the initial connection between 1Password extension and 1Password Helper.

I assume since it is set by group policy, you can't disable it temporarily to see how 1Password works initially?

    Correct - I cannot.

  • Hi @dmorrison,

One thing you can do is send us your 1Password diagnostics report when this issue occurs, so we can see what happened.

Please use this guide to generate the report and email it to us at support+windows@agilebits.com. Also, in the email, include the link to this thread along with your forum username, so that we can connect the email to this thread.

Let us know here when you've sent it, so we can confirm we got the email.

    Hi,

This is a follow up to my original issue regarding the Crtl+\ not working correctly. After getting the Helper to restart, and disabling the Anti-Ransomware by MalwareBytes, the shortcut works mostly in Chrome - but does not anywhere else. For instance, to log in to a network share, to log into my account in iTunes, - basically any login that is not on a browser the only way I can use 1Password now is to copy and paste, field by field, all the login info. That is not how it used to behave, and quite slow and frustrating. Any ideas?

  • Hi @eelliott,

First, try this and see if it helps:

    1. Open the main 1Password app, unlock, and go to the File Menu > Preferences > Logins
    2. Check the box next to Enable Multiple URLs, press OK to save the change

Try again with the shortcut in other apps, see if it helps.

Thanks... no luck. Either nothing happens (iTunes, Network Place in Windows, security login for encrypted disk partition); or the generic little 1Password menu opens (but does not autofill nor even list an available login for the page): NAS admin page (even though accessed through Chrome), etc. What else can I try? And out of curiosity, so that I understand this app better, what exactly does the setting "Enable Multiple URLs" do?

  • Hi @eelliott,

Just in case, you've added these apps to be secondary URLs on your Login items, right? Try re-adding iTunes to your Login item again to see if it will work.

By the way, Security Login dialogs for encrypted partitions most likely will not work with Auto-Type, Auto-Type is limited to dialogs that are not elevated.

As for Multiple URLs, by default for .agilekeychain vault file, 1Password only checks the primary URL that the Login item is saved with.

By enabling the Enable Multiple URLs option, 1Password will then be forced to decrypt all items you have to scan for its entire URL lists to find the one it is looking for. We have this turned off by default because it slows down the app as it would need to do a deeper scan.

For Auto-Type to work in third party apps, you have to add the app's window title to your Login items, and if you reuse an existing Login items, these app titles will be stored as secondary URLs. That means if it is turned off, auto-type won't work in any third party app windows when they're stored as secondary URLs.

I got some updated version that has literally no options. How would I fix this issue with this version?

  • Hey @Togna_Bologna,

Thanks for reaching out to us. Sorry to hear you're having issues with 1Password.
Can you please give us a more detailed description of the problem you're seeing?

    Thanks,

    Alex

@AlexHoffmann, I was able to sort it out. It was not at all clear to me that "Activate App by..." was synonymous with "Autofill login using..." I'm on Windows 1Password 6 beta. I know it's beta, but there also doesn't seem to be any documentation at all on that version, which doesn't help. It would only take a day at max to create a simple outline/explanation of the very minimal interface. Anyway, thanks for the timely reply. All set here.

As mentioned, "Autofill login using..." would make much more sense. To me, "Activate app by" indicates that I'm turning it on or starting it up, getting it ready to go somehow. Other phrasing that I would have understood better would have been, "Trigger in browser with..." or "Insert login when pressing..." It also didn't make sense that the settings was auto-filled with a "#". That's a character I have to press shift to get to. A hotkey might use shift, but it will always show the first level character of each key-press. This is my first time using 1Password, so take this as an anecdotal instance of feedback for your UX team.

  • Sorry for being dense, but where do you see Activate app by in 1Password 6?
Can you please send us a screenshot?

To fix the ctrl \ not working on my computer I deleted and reinstalled the Chrome Extension for 1Password from the Preferences/Browser section of the desktop app.
