Up to your usual standards?
Hi,
I use 1Password for a few years now on my Mac, on Windows and on iOS. Now I wanted to introduce 1Password for Teams to our company. I gathered that I had to use the Windows 10 app on Windows as the old Windows application does not support Teams. Did I get that right?
If so, I must say, that the Windows 10 app is not up to your usual standard. It might be still in beta, but even betas should have (and had up to now) a certain degree of maturity.
One more thing I do not understand, but maybe I am doing something wrong: Why do I have to log in with account url, email, account key and master password every time?
Best
Thomas

@Wombel: That's correct. Version 4 of the 1Password for Windows desktop app predates 1Password Teams. But we're working on a new app for Windows 7 and later, and it's currently in beta.

You're right: betas of our existing apps really do set a high bar, not only for betas, for for some "stable" software as well. But as is the case with anything, you have to start somewhere. The 1Password for Windows 10 beta is for a brand new app, so it's impossible for it to build on what's come before in the way 1Password for Mac 6.3 beta can. It's not up to our standards the way that a mature, decade-old app is, but we're working hard to get it there. :)

Are you referring to the beta app, or the web interface?

Brenty,
Thanks for you reply. Okay, then I'll keep on waiting... desperately. ;)
I was referring to the beta app.

@Wombel: Ah, thank you for clarifying! There was an issue with the previous beta where it would "start over" when launched. We've released a new version just overnight, so be sure to check for the update in the Windows Store. That should help, and we'll keep working to ease your desperation — and our own — in the long term. ;)

Hi @wombel,
To expand on Brenty's posts, the betas may require a reset of the database every once in a while because we're adjusting how the database is managed for various reasons; to improve performance, adding new features, fixing bugs and so on.
This is only because the Windows apps are brand new for us and we're not reusing any code from other 1Password apps that has been around for years. We're optimizing as we go and as the apps continues to mature and stabilizes, the less frequents the resets will be required.
Once the first version is shipped, there won't be any more resets as that's not acceptable and definitely not up to our established standards.

Hi @MikeT ,
Thanks for the additional information. I understand what you mean.
I just wondered though as today I received an email that my 1Password for Teams trial will expire the day after tomorrow. To me, the whole thing is still quite in beta at least from the point of view of a Windows user for the reasons stated above. Of course I could use the website but that is not the same thing. Especially the login process there is quite an effort as I have to key in the account key every time I log in. So, I think, you should consider to not have the trials expiring just now.

@Wombel: Ultimately if 1Password Teams doesn't meet your needs on Windows when the trial is over, it makes sense to wait until it does to subscribe. No argument there. But I don't think we'll be extending trials past 30 days (on top of the months before that where it was completely free) as a month should be long enough to determine if it's a good fit for your workflow. We're working hard to whip the new apps into shape, but I completely understand that they may not be sufficient for your workflow right now.
On the other hand, I'm concerned about the web interface issue you mentioned. Unless you check the "public computer" box, the Account Key should be saved in the browser's local storage. I know that saves me a lot of time when logging into the website from the browsers I use most. Can you tell me the OS and browser versions where you're having this problem?

Well, that is easily explained. I whip my browser clean whenever I close it. Personally I do not think it is a good idea to have all them cookies and stuff lying around in your browser. This was one of the reasons I chose 1Password in the firstplace. It gave me the chance to delete all the passwords I stored in my browser. With all the tracking and profiling around I think it is a reasonable choice to clean your browser.

@Wombel: Ah, absolutely! That makes sense. Just keep in mind that it does bring with it some tradeoffs (as I'm sure you're acutely aware). And in the case of AgileBits and 1Password, we don't track browsing behaviour or collect user data. We don't know who you are, but we love you.. Similarly, the cookies used on 1Password.com are only for your convenience — so you don't have to type your email address and Account Key every time. But of course it's entirely up to you if you want to take advantage of that. Cheers! :)
