Windows 7 1Password Beta - Login Errors
When trying to login via the recently released 1Password Beta, I am getting an "Unable to sign in, please check details provided and your network connection."
Considering my account key was a beast to type out and the copy paste does not work, it constantly threw me an error saying that was wrong. When I finally got it right, the error went away. So I have a feeling my "details" are correct, and it faults on my network. Which, since I am posting this, it works just fine.
My question then is - what special network configuration does this beta need? Ports opened? Firewalls turned off? I am running .Net Framework 4.6.1.
Like many others, I was a 1PA user via a workmachine. I am lucky enough to be able to install this locally, but if I need major network configurations I am going to get laughed at all the way back to my desk.
Thanks.

Can this be moved to the Windows Beta forums? Noticed that one exists and I blew it on the location of this thread. Thanks.

Hi @cwanja,
I've moved it to our Windows Beta forum.

The fact that it did work on its own means that you didn't have to do any network configuration. All it needs is access to our 1Password.com servers.
However, our network code does need some TLC. We're seeing some bugs in the network code that's not directly our code but in the network framework instead. We're trying to come up with some workarounds for them.
What would help is getting the logs from the network failures you saw. I suspect the logs have been overwritten but just in case, could you try sending us your logs:
- Open 1Password, unlock and enter /log/folder in the search field, this will open up our diagnostics folder
- Attach any files here to your email to us at support+windowsbeta@agilebits.com
Let me know if you sent the logs to us.

@MikeT - that is the thing, it never worked. That is why I am asking what network configuration it needs. And by browsing some other threads, I can see that this is not just a Windows Beta issue. I could never login to my Families account.
I instead was planning to download a copy of my Dropbox vault, store it locally and just read it from there. When I selected to not use a 1Password account, I was pleasantly surprised to see that I could just login with my Dropbox account and let it sync (granted read only) as opposed to having to install Dropbox on my computer.
I have sent the text file that was in the folder to the email address you provided with the subject line "1Password Beta Windows 7 : Network Error Logs" linking to this thread in the body of the email.
Line four of the log file says "Deleted previous log file." so I cannot imagine that log file will help you. I am not opposed to scrapping the data currently in Windows 7 1Password Beta and try to sign in again to 1Password Families and seeing if the error persists. Let me know.

Hi @cwanja,
I got the email and according to the error, it is asking for the proxy configuration. Are you using a proxy on the computer?

My apologies, I misunderstood what you said, what you meant is you were able to narrow it down to a network issue because you were very careful of inputting all of the info correctly.
The only thing that the app needs is port 433 to 1Password.com. 1Password.com may have different IP addresses because we're using a load-balancer.
Just to be clear, you have no problem logging into your 1Password Account in your web browser on the same computer on 1Password.com, right?

I personally never setup a proxy on my computer; however it might be that my company has a proxy setup through our network configuration (I.E. my first post about advanced network configuration).
No worries on the miscommunication, easily my fault as well!

That is a complicated question - yes and no. No, because I have an older version of Chrome provided by our IT department and IE 11 installed - neither which work with [subdomain].1password.com - however 1password.com (main site) loads fine. If I install the latest Chrome (elevated privileges), I can in-fact get to [subdomain].1password.com just fine.

Hi @cwanja,

If they are using a proxy, that might be the issue. They'd have to adjust the setting for 1Password.com on port 443 (HTTPS).
If I install the latest Chrome (elevated privileges), I can in-fact get to [subdomain].1password.com just fine.
I wonder if that's bypassing the proxy and if you try to install 1Password as an admin, it might do the same.

Not sure I follow this, since I am fully capable of browsing to 1password.com in Chrome / IE11 via SSL (port 443), as well as [subdomain].1password.com - I just get the error on the latter entry. So I can securely connect to 1password.com without error, except for the browser I use.
I wonder if that's bypassing the proxy and if you try to install 1Password as an admin, it might do the same.
You will have to pardon my ignorance here @MikeT, how would I go about installing it with Admin rights? There is no "installer" that I have to run. I launch the link and it kicks off the installation. Would one need to launch IE as an Admin and then enter the URL to get that to install as "admin"? Probably a dumb question considering I have admin rights...

Hi @cwanja,
I'm checking with our engineering teams to see what we can do.
My best educated guess as of right now, is that your work computer is configured with an automatic proxy file that the browsers is already configured with by the system. However, the issue might be that our app isn't configured to handle that configuration yet.
The error is saying that 1Password must provide the proxy authentication data before it can access our servers.

Hi,
Just wanted to report that I'm getting the same error when trying to signin from behind a corporate proxy. Our organization uses an automatic config script to configure proxy setting within the browser.
Here's an excerpt from the 1Password 6 log showing the error received when I try to signin:

Thanks Ryan, we will look for workaround of proxy issues!

Hi guys,
We've just shipped an update that enables the automatic proxy detection support that should reuse your IE's proxy settings.
Please restart the app to get the latest update and it should work now with your proxy settings.

@MikeT still getting the same error. Tried the account key (about the only thing I guess I can mistype) with and without hyphens to no luck. Log provided below.
There seems to be no pretty way to paste this, so I apologize in advance for how it looks.
[Edited by MikeT: Removed the logs]

Hi @Cwanja,
In the future, you don't need to post the full log in the forum and you can just email it to us, which I believe you already did.
It appears the change we did wouldn't support PAC files for some reasons. If the PAC URL is in the IE settings, it should be included but we'll figure this out.
I'll reply to your other email about this, I have an idea that might work.

@MikeT wanted to throw this gem at you - it looks as if the Beta thinks I am signed in. Found this today.

Dear AgileBits,
I would like to confirm that I have the same issues. If I can be of any help by providing logs, etc. please let me know. Also on a corporate network.
Kind regards, Pieter

@Purneau90: Absolutely! I'm sorry you're having trouble too. The best thing to do will be to restart your PC, reproduce the same issue, and then generate diagnostic information and send it to support+forums@agilebits.com so we can look at the logs to determine exactly what is happening:
- Open the main 1Password app
- Click on Settings > Email us
- Use a mail app to send it
- Or manually attach the
current.txt
to a new email to support+windowsbeta@agilebits.com
Just be sure to include a link to this forum thread and your username in the email so we can 'connect the dots'. You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here so we can quickly track it down. Once we see it we should be able to better assist you. Thanks in advance! We want to help as many people as we can with the proxy issues, so it's greatly appreciated!

Hi Brenty,
Thanks for your quick reponse.
However, as I am not able to log on, I also do not see any possibility to enter a **Settings **menu.
Any solution for this?Reproduction path:
Open 1Password 6 Beta
Under Where is your data? select 1Password Account
Scan QR code from clipboard
Enter Master Password
Sign In
Instantly: Unable to sign in, please check details provided and your network connection.0 -
@Purneau90 sorry for the trouble, let's try and figure out what exactly prevented connection. After you try to login, please look at file %LOCALAPPDATA%\1Password\diagnostics\current.txt - it should have details about what exactly happened. Please send it to support+windowsbeta@agilebits.com and we will find out what's wrong :)
UPDATE: P.S. if you see something about "normalization" - this is known issue for Windows 7 and it will be fixed with the next update (it affect only people with some diacritical or other special characters in their master password).

Are you able to log into your 1Password account if you open the web browser (Chrome, Firefox or Opera) and visit your account on 1Password.com?
Yes
According to your logs, 1Password cannot resolve the IP address for the domain, https://purneau.1password.com. We suspect your network is preventing this from happening.
Agreed
Does your work use a proxy? If yes, is it the type of proxy that requires authentication or anything like that? Does this proxy require you to manually ask the IT department to whitelist a certain domain before you can reach it?
I assume so. I never had to whitelist any other domain before using applications like these. Also, I can visit any site I like via normal browsers.

Hi @Purneau90,
Web browsers are usually given extra attention with more permissive rights but regular apps are different.
Would it be possible to ask your IT department if they need to whitelist a domain before the proxy allows the traffic? We use *.1Password.com on port 443 (Secure HTTPS).

Hi MikeT,
Of course, I will ask. However, I work at a very big company with many security measures.
I don't expect them to arrange this soon and 1Password is (unfortunately) not a supported application, so more doubts there. However, I don't expect myself to be the only one in this situation... Do you think a workaround is possible?
