In the admin console of 1Password for Teams for some user I have the option to check

  • Read
    • Reveal apassword
    • View history

If I leave the latter two unchecked, thus only Read checked, will the user ever be able to see the password?

Just beeing able to use and not see a password would be a great feature for us, as we wouldn't have to change passwords, when an employee leaves us.

  • Hi @Ranch,

First, the Windows beta apps aren't enforcing this throughly yet, we're still polishing the permission enforcement system but once it is done, yes, the user won't be able to see the password in the app or the browser extension. The current issue right now is that we are not yet disabling the edit button when reveal password is unchecked, otherwise you can edit your item and see the password. We are also considering how this permission works and maybe change it to disallow editing.

The password concealment is enforced by the apps with no option to turn it off. This is meant to prevent accidental revealing of the password but it is not meant to prevent someone from grabbing the password from external places like the web browsers. The greatest weakness is in the web sites itself, the password has to be given in clear text and if your user is a highly technical skilled one, they can bypass the browser's concealment and see the password in the field. Even installing a proxy on the computer can route the data around to get them the password.

That's very good news, Mike, less than Fort Knox will do for us. Apart from not having to change passwords when somebody leaves us, the feature also enables to change passwords, without nobody knowing. That way I can be sure, that nobody in the team has passwords on paper,

Will the feature be ready with release of the stable version of 1Password 6 in August?

    Hi @Ranch,

It's one of our top priorities to implement soon, so we hope so but I can't promise anything as anything can change from now to sometime in August. We're doing everything we can.

Your feedback do help us adjust our priorities.
