I am lost with your products on Windows: 1password 4, 1password6 and 1password UWP windows 10. I have paid for a licence for 4 and DO NOT want a subscription service as sole user and do not want to pay monthly fees. What product will I end up using in the future? If you are only going to be a subscription service in the future then please let me know

On a different note, it is still not possible to edit an entry (and save it) in the UWP 1password. This beta has been out for over 6 months and this is a fundamental feature of any password program. Please tell me if it is ever going to happen and when. There is no point playing around with the cosmetics of the program if you cannot save or even sync a change to the master password.

I left LastPass for this and have regrets!

@teal_oak: Thanks for reaching out. I'm really sorry for the confusion here. 1Password 6 for Windows is a new app built from the ground up to support 1Password Families (and Teams) on Windows 7, 8.1, and 10.

The good news is that if you're not interested in a 1Password Families subscription because you're not looking to share data securely with your loved ones, then the best option for you is clear: 1Password for Windows version 4.

While the new Windows desktop and UWP betas will support local (i.e. non-1Password Families vaults) fully in the future, right now they are the geared toward 1Password Families (and Teams) since 1Password 4 cannot work with those.

Currently, the UWP app supports local vaults in read-only mode. In the future, when it's ready, we'll be sure to announce when it supports this. But in the mean time you can use the stable 1Password 4 app that supports your local vaults (and folders, and browser extensions) fully for now and not worry about the rest.

And just to be clear, while 1Password Familes is a popular option, it isn't the only one. And we plan on offering standalone licenses for as long as we have customers for them — no subscription required. Let me know if you have any questions, or need help setting up 1Password 4! :)

  • I'd like to explain the reason we do not edit folder based vaults - unlike 1Password Teams or 1Password Families, folder based vaults can not be restored that easily in case beta app do something wrong. We decided to keep them read only until we have high level of confidence we can let all people use it.

We know that user can do backup, but we also know that many of them just forget to do so. We want to believe people pay attention to "beta" tag and all the risks that it carries, but we know that it's often not true. Therefore we have to be extra cautious with what we release.
