Hey,

Is there any plans for release of 1password extension in the Microsoft Edge browser.

Seems that LastPass has released an extension for the Edge Browser.

Cheers!

@onepassworder: Unfortunately while we're very much interested in making a 1Password extension for Edge, Microsoft has only announced extension support will be coming in this summer's Anniversary Update to Windows 10...but they haven't released documentation for the API yet ("stay tuned"). Hopefully we'll hear more soon. :unamused:

  • Hi @onepassworder,

Just to be clear, Microsoft chose to work with LastPass to work on the Edge extension, which is also limited to the latest Insider builds and I suspect it is to test their early extension APIs, so they can work out any glitches.

We did request to be a part of the early access developer list but we didn't hear back and unfortunately, that would mean we have to wait until they release all of their docs first before we can investigate how we can build our extension.

    Hi @mystere,

List of supported APIs they've added as of the latest Insider build 14316. As far as we could tell, a lot are still in development as per this page: https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/platform/documentation/extensions/extension-api-roadmap/

The most basic API we need right now is websocket API. We haven't seen any docs yet but it is possible they've added it but not yet documented. We'll test it and see if we can use it now.

They just recently added more information about debugging extensions in 14322 here: https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/platform/documentation/extensions/debugging-extensions/

So a lot of progress in the last month and I'll ping our extension team to see if we can build one yet.

Just hoping you don't wait for GA release to start working on said extension. I won't be buying 1Password until Edge is supported (I use Edge 99.9% of the time). Given that there's no Internet Explorer extension either, that's also a negative as there are some corporate sites that require the use of IE due to ActiveX concerns. I'm hoping that the extension when it finally arrives will work on Windows 10 for Phones as well.

    Hi @mystere,

1Password 4 for Windows already have a plug-in for Internet Explorer 11, it is automatically registered and installed as soon as you finish installing 1Password 4.

As far as we know, it should be fairly quick to port our Chrome extension to Edge with only minor adjustments needed. Which means, 90% of our extension for Edge is already done, we just have to test to see what adjustments we have to make for Edge.

Sorry for the mistake. I don't see any mention of IE on your compatibility list, and there was no IE extension on the browser plug-in page, so you can understand my confusion.

    Thank you for the clarifications.

No need to apologize! Internet Explorer has a bit of legacy baggage and works differently than other browsers in this regard, so it can certainly be a bit confusing. I'm glad you asked. That's what we're here for, any time. Cheers! :chuffed:

  • Hi guys,

Just an update, we've been working on this and unfortunately, right now, there is no clear support for a communication protocol between the Edge and local apps, like it works in Chrome and Firefox. We are investigating for other solutions but this is a huge feature to work around. We hope to find a solution soon but this does mean we may not be able to get Edge support in time for the August 2nd release of the Anniversary update.

Nothing to share yet apart from this announcement from a couple months ago:
