Good evening,

with the latest version (6.0.156d) I cannot enter my password - well more precisely, my password starts with an upper-case character so I start with pressing and holding the [SHIFT] key while pressing the character key.. and nothing happens.

I can enter lower-case characters just fine & I can write my password elsewhere and copy & paste it into the field, but I cannot type it.. which is somewhat annoying.

Not sure if this has been reported already but.. ohl well - here it is :)

Cheers,
-J

  • Hi @Jörg B.,

This is strange since we haven't made any changes to the password field in the latest update, it was mostly changes with the browser helper integration.

I've also tried this and it works okay for me with the first upper-case character.

Could you try changing the password in the app to see if it lets you in with the lower-case first character. Note: this will not affect your 1Password Account, we are not yet syncing password changes to remote services. So, changing it in the 1Password 6 beta for Windows apps only affects the local database and not your vault or 1Password account.

To do this; open 1Password, try to unlock and then go to Settings > Options to change your master password to lower-case the first character. Restart 1Password, does it let you in fine?

If yes, repeat the process to bring back the upper-case character and test again, is it still not working?

    Mike,

I am somewhat in a hurry out right now - but I wanted to make the change real quick and at first (after booting up the machine and logging into windows again) I could not reproduce it either - started 1Password 6 & I _could _enter the upper case character at the beginning just fine.. which was odd. I closed and started 1Password again.. and same - I _could _enter the PW.

Then I thought / remembered that maybe it has something to do with me having 1Password basically running all the time and it auto-locks after a certain time and tried that (via opening 1Password, logging into my account (again.. just fine)).. but then locking it manually (in this case via [Win]+[Shift]+[L]) and there we go - after locking it (and within the same process 'session' of the application) and _trying _to re-enter my password - it didn't work this time.

So maybe it has something to do with locking.

Also (& maybe worth mentioning if it is related) - I have a German Keyboard (+ Layout), albeit Windows & 1Password being English (US).

I got to run - if you can't reproduce it via Locking let me know and I'll try your proposed local pw-change tomorrow.

Please let us know what you find. If there's an issue there that needs to be addressed, we'll be happy to do so. :)

  • I've managed to reproduce the problem, locking prevented one letter from being entered as Shift+...
Not sure why that weird behavior happens, but I have few ideas where to look and what to fix. Thanks Jorg for your help, fix is coming soon!

  • Please restart the app, it should be fixed now. Sorry for the trouble and thanks for letting us know!
