Hi 1PW team, 1Password 6 for Windows seems stable and useful enough for me to abandon by old 1PW 4. I've been anxiously waiting the day I could leave behind Dropbox as my vault container. I've done so, and have uninstalled 1 PW 4.

But now it appears I have no Browser functionality. There is no longer a 1PW icon in either of my browsers (IE 11 and Chrome 53). Also when I click Browse in 1 PW 6 for any given login, my default browser opens to the appropriate site but nothing further happens. The login fields do not fill in.

I have tried uninstalling 1 PW 6, and reinstalling it but 1PW still has no browser functionality. Any suggestions?

1Password Version: 2016.6.501d
Extension Version: ?
OS Version: Win 8.1

@Dig_Doug: I'm sorry for the confusion here! It sounds like you may be having trouble in a few different — though related — areas.

First, you'll need to uninstall the old version you're using currently.

Next, install the latest version of the 1Password 6 Windows desktop beta.

Then, install the extension in Chrome (Internet Explorer is not supported by 1Password 6 and probably won't be, given that Microsoft has also discontinued it in favour of Edge). However, prerelease versions of browsers are not supported. Chrome 53 might work, but you may want to use the stable version instead (currently 51). Just keep in mind that while we're focused on improving it every day, browser integration is still very basic.

If you're still having trouble, let me know the exact steps you're taking and what is (or isn't) happening as you expect and we'll get things sorted out for you! :)

Reinstalling the Chrome extension worked. Thanks @Brenty,

If your Windows user base is like me, you probably want to re-consider IE support. I am an enterprise Windows user and my OS and Browser is 100% dependent on the corporate direction. My IT dept upgrades when it's ready, which is often three + years after Microsoft. It's not that they're slow, but we have a ton of tools linked to IE and moving to a new browser requires large-scale re-tooling.

Please reconsider 1PW's support of IE. If not, I'd be stuck back in 1PW 4 (and dropbox, uggh) or maintaining two Browsers which is also problematic.

@Dig_Doug: Glad to hear it! Thanks for letting me know! :)

You're absolutely right. It isn't completely off the table, but it would mean developing a new add-on for a discontinued browser, even when there are many modern alternatives which are still under active development and that can use our standalone browser extensions. And it would also be a tough sell for many other folks since it would necessitate administrative access to install. That's been a common request from a lot of customers in an enterprise environment who simply don't have that sort of access and cannot use 1Password 4 because of that. With Chrome, Firefox (and others), installing extensions does not require anything more than a quick download. And "soon" Edge will be using this same modern method.

Please reconsider 1PW's support of IE. If not, I'd be stuck back in 1PW 4 (and dropbox, uggh) or maintaining two Browsers which is also problematic.

It's something we'll continue to consider, but while 1Password Teams (and Families) customers' only choice on Windows is to use 1Password 6, you and anyone else who depend on legacy software at least have 1Password 4 as a mature, stable fallback option which fully supports IE (and works with older OSes as well). Thanks for your feedback on this!
