Duplicate "logins" (but with string of aphanumeric characters)

With the **latest **version of the Windows 10 beta I downloaded today, I have a bunch of "logins" that have basically duplicated "older' logins, and which refer to them as "item 6" or "item 3" etc, but which are basically **titled **with a long string of alphanumeric numbers. Each item, when clicked on, shows the username and password, but again, with the alphanumeric "reference" for lack of a better term, ie 1SE38593478 etc (made up) instead of the name such as "Amazon".

These "duplicates" do NOT appear on my iPhone or iPad logins.

Also, I assumed I had to initiate a sync as it was not automatic in the Windows beta- maybe it was as I was assuming it wasn't processing. Maybe this caused the problem?

The QUESTION: do I need to remove these "duplicates" and wonder why (thankfully) they are not in the iOS side.Or what do I do?

CONCERN: I have been planning to move to family (Note: I am using windows 1password 4 successfully otherwise along with ipad/iphone with no issues) but am very hesitant to make the move to family before these things are worked out in windows. I understand fully this is a beta. Any helpful thoughts?
Thanks in advance

  • Hi @tklett,

Thanks for reaching out. This looks like a hiccup in the local database.

Please remove the 1Password folder in %LOCALAPPDATA% (you can simply paste this string into the address bar of the Windows Explorer).

This will delete any and all local contents of 1Password and you will have to sign into your team on the PC again.
    We're sorry for the inconvenience.

    Cheers

As I said above I am NOT YET a family or team subscriber. I am using Dropbox for both versions 4 and 6 and until today it was fine. Since I am not using family does the recommended solution still apply?

@tklett: Indeed, the 1Password 6 beta is focused on 1Password Families/Teams. If you're not using that, you should stick with 1Password 4, which fully supports OPVault and AgileKeychain vaults. 1Password 6 will support these in the future as well, but right now it's read-only as the beta is incomplete. I'm sorry for the confusion!

Once again a nice response but without apparently reading my original and follow up question. I have asked whether the beta Windows version, which had a problem as earlier described, and which is NOT YET being used in family, should be corrected via the advice given by AlexHoffman. I realize I am a novice with the program but it seems his advice was designed to resolve a family based (your cloud) 1password 6 beta. I am NOT using family yet and using Dropbox. So it seems to me, perhaps incorrectly, that the otherwise fine advice may not be appropriate in my facts as presented. If I am wrong fine but please advise one way or the other. I realize I should use 1password 4 if I am not yet in family. But I want to move to family fairly soon. Thanks in advance.

  • @tklett sorry for the confusion, what is visible on screen is coming from local database, which is stored at %LOCALAPPDATA%\1Password folder, removing this database effectively let you restart from clean state.

There are few possible reasons for you to see these cryptic titles. I believe this is most likely conflict items from the Dropbox. I'm assuming your vault's folder has .agilekeychain suffix. When you go to Dropbox folder (via web or your file explorer) do you see files in data\default subfolder with something about "conflict" in name?

    Hi @tklett,

[Updated to simplify the instruction and to collect info faster]

    Please do the following:

    1. Close 1Password 6 Beta and then open Windows File Explorer. In the address bar, enter %LOCALAPPDATA%\1Password.
    2. Rename the 20160514.sqlite file to old-db.sqlite, this is your local 1Password database file
    3. Open 1Password and use Use without 1Password Account > Dropbox to load your Dropbox file again.

Do you still see these items?

If yes, do you still have 1Password 4 for Windows installed? If yes, please use this guide to generate the 1Password diagnostic report and email it to us at support+windows@agilebits.com. Also, in the email, include the link to this thread along with your forum username, so that we can connect the email to this thread.

Let us know here when you've sent it, so we can confirm we got the email.

    Thanks MikeT. That helped immensely.

FYI- before I got your advice I went in and deleted each of the strange looking "logins". What was extremely interesting - to me at least- was the URL section that was (and still is in the Dropbox and non beta 6 Windows ) there before was gone from both the alphanumeric duplicates AND the presumably normal "logins".

But doing what you suggested resolved it. And thanks for the extra detail in how to do it.

  • Hi tklett,

You're welcome. I'm glad it helped.
