Chrome extension, Windows 10 and 1Password 6

Hi 1Password community,
I just registered for a 1Password account, so far I really like all the features.

Playing around with various versions of the app, it appears that the Windows 10 1Password 6 app is still incapable of talking correctly with the Chrome extension. To correctly use all features of the chrome extension I am currently using 1Password 4 and Dropbox for syncing, although:

  • I would prefer using my 1Password account to share my vaults with my family.
  • My 1Password 4 app is titled "1Password Trial", but I don't think I ever received a license?

Questions:

  • Is the Chrome extension supposed to work now with 1Password 6 for Windows 10? If yes, can you help me diagnose the issue?
  • If no, how do I obtain a 1Password 4 license to unlock the full version on my Windows 10 PC?

Thanks,
Daniele

1Password Version: 4.6.0.604
Extension Version: 4.5.8.90
OS Version: Windows 10 1511
Sync Type: Drobox / 1Password Account

Also, if I should stick to 1Password 4 for now, is there an ETA for the 1Password 6 app to work with full features on Windows 10?

@Secror: Yep! Keep in mind that the 1Password 6 beta's browser integration is still very basic, so you'll need to have the 1Password app open and unlocked. When you're at a URL that matches one (or more) of your logins, you should be able to click the 1Password button in Chrome and

However, you're probably having trouble getting that to work because you're also using 1Password 4, which will presume that the browser communications are meant for it. The way around this is to either uninstall it, or close 1Password 4 and kill the Agile1PAgent/1Password(32-bit) process in Task Manager. That will prevent 1Password 4 from interfering when you're trying to use 1Password 6 with your browsers.

If no, how do I obtain a 1Password 4 license to unlock the full version on my Windows 10 PC?

Once you've subscribed to 1Password Families, if you'd like to use 1Password 4 for the time being just shoot us an email at support+licenses@agilebits.com and we'll take care of you.

Great question! We don't have an EAT for "full features", because we're adding them one by one over time to make sure they're solid, rather than trying to push out everything at once and crossing our fingers.

If there are specific features that are at the top of your list, let us know. I can't promise anything, but we do try to prioritize development based on what will do the most good for the greatest number of people. Cheers! :)

    Hi @brenty ,
    Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case.
I just uninstalled my 1Password 4 program and installed 1Password 6.0.183d. I am able to unlock the app and access my vault through the app (which is currently empty), but:
    1. Left-clicking on my 1Password Chrome plugin doesn't do anything.
    2. When I log into webpages it doesn't offer me to save them.
    3. Ctrl-\ doesn't do anything.

2 and 3 are the only features I need from the browser plugin.

So, I guess the chrome plugin is in fact not talking to my 1Password 6.0.183d app even if it is running. My 1Password plugin version is 4.5.8.90.

If it can help, here's the log from 1Password -> Options -> Advanced:

I am subscribed already to 1Password with the $3.99 monthly subscription, can you get me a 1Password 4 license please? [Edited by MikeT: removed personal contact info]

    Dear @Secror,

Check your inbox. I've just sent you an email with a license. :)

  • Hi @Secror,

I've edited your post to remove your contact info, please do not share any personal information in this public support forum.

According to your log file, there's no entry in your 1Password 6 Beta database, which means there's nothing to show when you click on the 1Password icon at the moment. You need to have existing saved Logins before you can click on the 1Password icon to show you the Login items that matches the site you're on. If you open the main 1Password 6 app, do you see any data?

Did you try to add your local vault file via Dropbox? You can do this via the Settings on top right, select Accounts & Vaults > Sign in to Dropbox.

In addition, there is no auto-save support yet in 1Password 6 Beta's browser extension support. This is coming in a future update.

The upcoming beta update to 1Password 6 is going to make the extension a bit easier to work with. For now, if you want to access your data in 1Password 6, you have to import your data from the existing local vault file into a vault that lives in your 1Password account.

  • Hi @Shepstl,

Even with 1P open and unlocked on a URL where I have login info saved, the browser extension does nothing.

Is the saved URL in the Login item using the same subdomain as the address shown in the browser? This needs to match exactly, as in https://a.b.c in the Login item > https://a.b.c in the browser's address bar.

The next update coming soon will improve this to be more flexible.

  • Hi @shepstl,

What security program are you using on your PC? It may be blocking the connection between the extension and the app.

  • Hi @shepstl,

That shouldn't be the issue but let's grab the logs to see what it could be.

    1. Open Windows File Explorer and enter the following in the address bar to open our diagnostics folder: %LOCALAPPDATA%\1Password\Diagnostics
    2. Reproduce the issue in 1Password 6, you'll then see a current.txt file show up or updated if it already existed in the Diagnostics folder.
    3. Please email that file to us at support+windowsbeta@agilebits.com, also include the link to this thread along with your forum username.

    Thanks!

  • Hi @Shepstl,

That's a known issue with the AgileKeychain files, migrating from it won't carry over the URLs. We're working on fixing it and it should be available in the next beta update.

If you want to fix this now, the best option is to do an import instead of copying the data over. Do you still have 1Password 4 installed with your original AgileKeychain file?

  • Hi @shepstl,

We plan to ship an update soon that should fix this issue, would you like to wait to try this approach in 1Password 6 Beta or do you want to do the import with 1Password 4 first?

    Everything's all good now?

  • Hi @shepstl,

That's great to hear. The next beta update will improve the filling on more sites and the URL matching will work better as well.

If you don't mind sharing it with us here (public forum) or email it to us at support+windowsbeta@agilebits.com, we'd love to know the sites, so we can test it against our upcoming improvements to see if we need to make more adjustments.

    Hi @MikeT, @justgregb,
Thank you for all your assistance with this.
The 1Password 4 license worked great and I'm now up and running with that.
It is a pity that auto-saving doesn't work with 1Password 6, since that's an incredibly handy feature I am not ready to give up. I'll keep my eyes open for when 1Password 6 will have feature parity with 4.

    Thanks!

@Secror: We couldn't agree more! We just want to make sure that 1Password 6 is solid and filling works well, and then we'll be adding autosave and other feature we all sorely want. I'm glad that 1Password 4 is working for you in the meantime. Thanks for you patience! :)

  • Hi @shepstl,

I couldn't reproduce this. Could you create a new Login item and enter your data in with the URL set to https://accounts.logme.in/login.aspx. See if this new Login item will fill in better now.

  • This content has been removed.
  • You're welcome, I'm glad it helped.

Let us know if you find any other issues with the filling, 184d with the new 1Password mini should be enough to work on all sites, well almost all.
