Windows 1Password 6 Beta client's "register 1password helper" button doesn't do anything

This is for the Personal (Individual?) version, not Teams. But it seems that your website doesn't fully reflect the Personal offering yet. (There is no value for Personal in the Category drop-down in this ticketing system.)

1) The "Register 1Password Helper" button in the Windows "1Password 6 Beta" client doesn't do anything as far as I can tell. I've tried reinstalling the extension.

As a result, the 1Password Chrome extension doesn't work at all. (The window is empty and the gear icon has no actions in it.)

2) Could you please let me know when you create a Personal version of this Security Design PDF:

https://1password.com/teams/white-paper/

Thanks,
Garland

    Hi @beupik,

Thanks for taking the time to contact us. I'm sorry you're having some trouble.

Indeed. We should have that sorted out soon. We didn't want to make it overly complicated since a lot of folks using standalone licenses already thought they were using 1Password accounts (before they even existed). But we do need to make it clearer, and hopefully easier to pick the right one. Regardless of where you post, though, we're here to help. :)

It won't do anything you can see, but it should be working in the background. Just to be clear: it’s not yet possible to save passwords in the extension when running 1Password 6 for Windows, but if filling isn’t working:

    1. Open Task Manager. If you don’t see the list of background processes, click “More details” in the bottom left.
    2. Select “1Password (32 Bit)” and click “End task”.
    3. Select “Agile1pAgent” and click “End task”.

Did you see either of those processes there? If so, when you ended them did the extension start working?

Could you please let me know when you create a Personal version of this Security Design PDF:

The security is the same. We should really just rename it "1Password Security Design" to avoid the confusion. Thanks for mentioning that. :+1:

    Hi Khad,

    Thanks for the great reply.

When I checked out the support pages before posting my support request, I did see the instructions about killing the tasks. But I don't have those tasks running; all I have is "1Password for Windows desktop" which has sub-tasks "1Password" and "1Password 6 Beta".

By the way, who sees these support forum posts? Are they public or only seen by AgileBits staff? That wasn't clear when I was creating my userid for the forum.

    @beupik,

Sorry for any confusion. This support forum is public. You can click around and see posts from other users. It is indexed by search engines so other folks trying to find solutions to similar problems can find their answers quickly. But we're here to provide one-on-one support whenever it is needed.

It wasn't immediately clear to me fro your reply, but are you still having trouble with the extension? I presume so, as those processes would only be getting in the way if you had 1Password 4 installed before. It doesn't sound like that is the case, so the problem likely didn't magically go away. (Though I can always hope.) :)

I'm going to move your post into the Windows Beta category where we can better assist you. Can you take a screenshot of what you are seeing in the extension? That may give us a hint as to what is happening.

You're right, it's not fixed. I still can't get the browser extension to connect to the data set in the Windows 1Password applications. I've tried multiple times to start and stop, uninstall and reinstall, log into the Windows application and the extension, and still it won't connect. Also note that both the extension and/or application ask me to log into 1Password whenever I do something in the browser; I would have thought that my login would be remembered; maybe that's a clue.

  • Hi @beupik,

The second screenshot looks like the extension is working but you're on the newtab page, which means there's no login in your database for this page, which is normal. If you want to see all items in your database, try pressing Control + Alt + \ instead.

Try visiting the discussions's sign in page here: https://discussions.agilebits.com/entry/signin and then click on the 1Password icon, does it show your Login item for the forum now?

I got the little 1Password window in Chrome to populate with my list of logins, etc., but just twice: once using Ctrl+ALT+\, and once from the Chrome Extension icon.

Overall this software feels like alpha quality. Maybe I should try it again in a month?

    Hi @beupik,

Yes, it is a beta build of a brand new program that doesn't have everything implemented yet. We're working on addressing all issues as we hear from our beta testing community while we continue to iterate through our app with more features and polishing the UI.

You can certainly stop using 1Password 6 Beta now and wait a few months to try again.

hi beupik , i have same issue like you. And i try 5 day.
    To agilebits:
Do you have any product manger or tester? I doubt it.

I have to say, first of all, the whole product should run successfully. Only then, you can talk about the iteration.

Indeed. That's why we're working hard on the beta. Thanks for the feedback! :)

It took me a while to grasp the responses beupik's issues which mirror mine, but the essence is that we the (new) user of the extension are expecting the browser extension to bring up all logins in the DB. It seems instead that, by design, it's supposed to only bring up the login(s) for the website you're currently on. Pretty user friendly that way, I must say!

So, then, just a suggestion...would be great to see **all ** logins when we're on a "new tab" in the browser.

  • Hi @DinoFromNY,

It is not technically by design, right now 1Password mini will only show you the matched items it found for the page it is on. By design, we want to show two things, any matched items and the rest of the database if you want to open something else, like this on macOS:

That's how we're going to improve 1Password mini in 1Password 6 for Windows. Right now, what you can do is press Control + Alt + \ twice, it will then reset to show you all items in the database.

AH even better. I started off with V6 on the Mac first and saw that. Love it! (Nice tip by the way - pressing key combo twice - THANKS!)

  • You're welcome!
