Why does 1password launch slowly in Windows?

1password takes longer to open in Windows 10 than on any of my Mac OS machines. The browser plugins are also very slow to open. Is it because it's 32 bit?

In 1Password 6 for Mac, we use an internal app database file that's faster to read and write data with. 1Password 4 for Windows doesn't do this, it read and write to your local vault files directly. So, if you have 1K items in your database, you have 1K files that 1Password needs to read when unlocking, making it slower than the comparable Mac app.

We're working on a new version of 1Password for Windows that uses the same internal app database and we've already heard from many users how snappy it is compared to the current version, it is because of this internal data structure change.

It will be a while, I don't have a timeframe on when it'll be offered for licensed customers.

The plan is to ship our first stable update of 1Password 6 Beta later this month for 1Password.com customers and offer another update later this year that will include the full support for local vault files, which is when it can replace 1Password 4.

If you'd like, you can give it a try here, 1Password 6 Beta right now offers read-only support for syncing the local vault file via Dropbox. It doesn't include all features just yet.
