How long until the beta approaches the usability of the old app?
Serious question. How quickly are we likely to get new builds and improvements?
The current functionality of opening the app and using the Chrome extension is pretty crap compared to the previous windows version I was using. If there was any way I could use that version with the sync I would.
1Password 6 beta = frustration, at this stage.
1Password Version: 6 beta
Extension Version: 4.5.8.90
OS Version: Not Provided
Sync Type: 1Password Pesonal Sync

Hi @wyldphyre,
Serious question. How quickly are we likely to get new builds and improvements?
We've been shipping new updates weekly, sometimes a few times per week, you can see the whole history here. We've just shipped 186d (which includes the 185d changes that wasn't released before) today with a lot of improvements in various places, it has a new feature to copy your TOTP code after you fill (disabled by default).
The current functionality of opening the app and using the Chrome extension is pretty crap compared to the previous windows version I was using.
I'm sorry to hear you're frustrated. Can you clarify the issue with opening the app, so we can understand what we can do to improve it.
We know the following and will improve:
- Initial unlock isn't optimized yet. If the main 1Password app is closed and you click on the 1Password icon in your browser, it would open up the "Helper not Found" tab while opening the main 1Password app. We plan to add a setting to keep 1Password mini running all the time, so you can avoid this tab and 1Password mini will work as soon as you boot up the computer.
- It doesn't fill as soon as you unlock. [Pressing
Control + \
again will fill] - It can't let you search while you're on a site with Logins, so that you could open a different site. [Pressing
Control + Alt + \
twice will do this]
A lot of changes are coming to 1Password mini, such as supporting auto-save, ability to view your item's details, support for credit card/identity filling, and many more.

Also, to answer your question in the forum's title, it will be a while before we equal or exceed 1Password 4's feature parity, it's been around for 7+ years. We believe we can get there later this year but no promises.

At this point your point 1 is one of the most bothersome, though 2 and 3 are annoying.
I've only had the new app for about a week, so wasn't sure how often to expect releases that might help.
I spent a lot of time relaunching 1Password on my Windows 10 machine today, so the frustration is compounding. First I didn't realise that clicking the 'x' button actual took the app out of the system tray, then I found that behaviour and focus when minimised to the system tray could be odd (including unlocking the app only to be greeted by a massive (fix the windows sizing) white window so I had to restart the app)
I guess that this boils down to the fact that in order to use the new sync stuff, which I want to use on my Mac and iOS devices, you've forced us to use a version of the app that isn't ready for general consumption on Windows. That is especially galling now that I'm a paying subscriber (having already paid for several upgrades). I think it would have been best if you could have found a way to integrate the new sync into the previous Windows app until such time as v6 was ready, or at least much closer to ready.
Part of why 1Password is so cool is the way it works and makes life easy. Except now I'm forced into using a version that makes life difficult.
With regards to the question in the title, the 'approaching' bit is important. I don't expect the Mac experience to be duplicated over night, but I'd like the basic, daily functionality of reliably entering my passwords ASAP.

Hi @wyldphyre,

We agree, we would've love to do that but we've tried and it didn't work out. 1Password.com is not a sync service, it is a complete data service that includes a lot more than just sync. It is not simply possible to change an app to "sync with it".
1Password.com is very different from how 1Password worked previously, we built it with strong focus on cloud security designed for the next decade and a lot of the internal processes are on the server's side, so everything've changed including the encryption methods.
1Password 4 for Mac was rebuilt 2-3 years ago that was designed to be flexible as well and to be reused for the iOS app development as well, we were able to adapt these apps to work with 1Password.com in a long internal development process. The Windows app, unfortunately cannot, causing us to build a brand new app instead. Due to majority of our customers being on macOS and iOS, we've decided to ship 1Password.com with mature apps for these customers and a limited beta app for Windows as well as a stable app for Android.

And I can understand why you've done it that way, but I guess it would have been nice to know ahead of time what I was getting myself in for. Chances are it was written somewhere that I'd have to use beta software, but if so I didn't see it. If I'd known there's a good chance I'd had waited to switch over.

Hi @wyldphyre,
I agree, it would be nice if we mentioned Windows is a beta app only long before you even get to the sign-up page and repeated again on several pages.

Noted. I guess I figured it was closer to done than it is. Which is on me. At the end of the day it doesn't change the fact Windows users got the short end of the stick. I can and will live with that, but I'm not going to be happy about it.

Quick question. I assume the beta updates are automatically found by the beta app, and I don't have to keep up with them manually?

I'd like to apologise for the adversarial tone I devolved into. Despite how this conversation started, born of frustration with 1Password and some other software that wasn't living up to expectations, I had not intended this conversation go in this direction. I'm in a position almost entirely of my own making, based on assumptions (only partly justified) that I made based on my past experience with AgileBits.
Cheers

@wyldphyre: Understood. We're not happy with where 1Password 6 is yet either, so we're going to keep working on it every day. We'll get there, and we appreciate the feedback!

Yep! When you open 1Password 6 it will check for a new version. We'll be improving this in the future as well, but as you've noted we have some other things to work on first!

Yknow what, don't sweat it! Frankly, even if things can get a little heated, it's a huge compliment that you hold us to such a high standard. It's what we expect of ourselves too, but we can do something about it when we feel like something is lacking, whereas you just sort of have to wait. That's definitely frustrating. Please don't stop caring and expecting great things from us. It's our job to make it happen, and we appreciate the honest feedback! :)
