open on windows login issue

This was a feature that i welcomed but for me is unnecessary as i know how to make an app start on login on a windows machine. when i removed the shortcut in the startup folder and allowed 1password to do this for itself via the new checkbox the app starts but does not prompt me to log in, this is inconvenient but not terrible. what is troubling is that when i do select either the main app icon or the mini icon and put in a password the app hangs and shows only a grey screen until its closed and reopened and i sign back in again. im not sure if this the the best place for an official bug report but there it is.

  • Hey @jessebruffett,

Thanks for sending in this feedback.

The reason we added this option is have 1Password 6 available for use in the browser from the start.

In 1Password 4 we used to automatically start the 1Password Helper (Agile1pAgent.exe) during boot so the 1Password browser extension would be able to find it when you click the extension button or use the keyboard shortcut.
In 1Password 6 we don't have a separate helper process anymore — which removes so so many potential headaches.

As you know 1Password 6 has to be running and unlocked for the extension to fill information. By launching the app in the background during boot we're removing the need for the user to think about starting the app before attempting to use it in the browser.

I'm curious about the buggy behaviour you're seeing. Can you please remove your own autostart setting, reboot and check if this still happens? I can't reproduce this behaviour.

    Thanks!

  • Hi @jessebruffett,

We've fixed the white screen issue in the 6.0.199d update just shipped now. The issue was related to opening 1Password more than once, which killed the UI in the newest instance.
