1Password Helper never starts / works?
Hello there,
ever since upgrading to the latest version / beta, the 1Password Helper appears to either never start & run.. or the Chrome extension does not work or cannot communicate with it.. because no matter what I try - clicking the 1Password extension button on sites I have a login for only starts 1Password (if not running) or brings it topmost/focuses to it.. and that's.. it. The login never works and pressing the Extension button again.. only does the same.. over and over again. Nothing changes on reboots, closing 1Password completely.. (un)checking the checkbox in the Options.. nothing - it's just not working.
Chrome is version 53.x, I have Eset Nod32 installed.. and that's about it.
Beyond all the other current shortcomings/problems the beta has, this just made it worse :-(
Is there anything I am missing / could be doing wrong?
Thanks,
-Jörg

Hey @jorg, sorry for the trouble you've been having with the helper. I just need to ask you a few more questions to get a better idea of what's causing this issue.
ever since upgrading to the latest version / beta, the 1Password Helper appears to either never start & run
Was the helper and the extension working on a previous build of 1Password 6? Or did you move from 1Password 4 to 1Password 6?
clicking the 1Password extension button on sites I have a login for only starts 1Password (if not running) or brings it topmost/focuses to it.. and that's.. it.
What are the URL's you're trying to fill when the extensions isn't working? Are you sure that you have corresponding logins with those URL's in your vault?
I have Eset Nod32 installed
Have you whitelisted 1Password 6? anti-virus software can often block 1Password from being able to communicate with the extension.
Also, if you were using 1Password 4, you need to make sure that its processes are completely terminated. Go to task manager and terminate 1Password 32-bit and 1Pagent.
Looking forward to hearing from you,

I'm having the same problem too.
I only have 1Password 6 installed. Using Windows Defender, no other AV.
I've confirmed that the URLs match those in my 1Password vault.I just get a new tab open; Either the helper is not running, or something is preventing it from communicating with the 1Password browser extension.
If 1Password 6 is not in the foreground, it flashes on the taskbar, but switching to it doesn't help the browser extension at all.
Also, invoking 1Pw Mini just opens to a list of all passwords. If I search for the current site, it doesn't give me an option to copy and paste the password, and clicking on the site just opens a new tab to that site in my browser, then the problem repeats.
Running Chrome Version 53.0.2785.89

@wipash: It sounds like communication may be happening, but only in one direction. Otherwise I think you wouldn't be getting the flashing from the main 1Password app. Have you tried disabling Eset and other extensions temporarily? That should help narrow down the cause, and then we can figure out if there's a way for you to set an exception for 1Password to avoid these issues. Let me know what you find!

Hi guys, please update to the latest 6.0.199, there you can check if browser was actually able to connect to the app by visiting Settings > Options > Browsers
If you see your browser listed, then connection is made successfully. If there is no browser listed, then connection most likely was refused (since you mentioned that app is flashing in the background, that is usually a sign that some signal reached it).
We need to look at your logs to figure out why it doesn't work. To get logs type
/log
in search box after you tried to fill, then copy logs and send them to support+windowsbeta@agilebits.com please. We will investigate specific details. Thank you!0 -
Let us know here if you sent it to us, so we can look for the email. If you can, please include the link to this thread along with your forum username, so we can connect the dots.

Hey,
I've sent logs. When I first booted my PC this morning, the extension worked properly, but after updating to 6.0.199d it's gone back to the old behaviour.
Another PC of mine works properly on 6.0.199d, running the same version of Chrome.0 -
@wipash: Ah, I'm sorry that got your hopes up. Did you by any chance leave Chrome running while updating 1Password? Try restarting the browser. It may not be able to connect until it's restarted. Let me know if that helps! :)
Also, I'm not seeing any emails from this address. Please post the Support ID you received here so we can track it down!

We've found your email @wipash and will reply there, it feels like something is blocking communication over ws://127.0.0.1

Hey guys,
After a reboot, everything seems to be working properly.
FYI, the only AV/security software I have installed is Windows Defender.0 -
That's great to hear, thanks for letting us know. Windows Defender hasn't caused any issues lately but it sounds like it may have been something else on your system.
