Windows beta won't download

I currently have 1Password 4 on my Windows based PC (synced to Dropbox). After seeing the Family plan, I decided to sign up for that. When I went to download the installer, everything seemed to be going okay until the end when I receive the following message "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your local support personnel or package vendor" Then where is shows the 1Password 6 Installation Incomplete screen the following message appears "The installer was interrupted before the 1Password 6 could be installed. You need to restart the installer and try again." Of course when I did this I just simply received the same errors again. I have migrated over my Mac and Apple mobile devices, but I need to get my desktop handled as well.

Hey @bourbonkurtz, sorry for the trouble. I suspect this is an issue with not having the correct version of the .NET Framework installed. 1Password 6 requires at least version 4.6.1 which you can download here.

Also, please make sure you don't have any pending updates and that you restart your PC after installing this update.

Please let me know if you this works for you.

Just wanted to circle back around with you and let you know that I was finally able to get 1Password 6 for Windows to download and install. Thank you. Now the only other issue that I am having is that only my logins seemed to migrate over to the new Windows version. My secure notes and other categories show up on my Apple devices (iphone, ipad, Mac Laptop), and even on my original 1Password 4 for Windows. Why is this information not showing up on 1Password 6 for Windows?

  • That's good news, @bourbonkurtz,

    Thanks for letting us know.

    Regarding your issue:
Did you perform the data migration as described in Move your existing 1Password data to a 1Password account?
If so, were you in the login category when you migrated your data on your PC?

We'll help you get this fixed!

    Cheers,

    Alex

    Alex,

Thank you for reaching out to me. I decided to go ahead and uninstall my Dropbox account and reinstall it on my Windows desktop. This seemed to fix the issue in regards to allowing my other categories to sync over. For some reason, now my Chrome extension is showing just 4 of my logins.

  • @bourbonkurtz,

Please excuse my confusion here but from what you're saying, it sounds like you've set up your 1Password.com account and you've also loaded your 1Password vault that you're syncing with Dropbox in 1Password 6. Is that right?

Do you see all of your data in the 1Password account now? From what we can tell you have a lot of items already in your 1Password.com account.

Are your Apple devices set up to use your 1Password.com account already?

    Thanks

    Alex,

Sorry to make things confusing. I hate to say it, I know enough about 1Password to be dangerous so it is likely me not explaining things in a proper way. I decided to upgrade to 1Password 6 in an effort to tie not only all my devices together, but also allow my wife and daughter access to all of the family passwords. The upgrade process was seamless for my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook Pro. I was able to get all of my passwords and other categories to migrate over to those devices using the QR code. As you can see from the thread above it appeared that my .NET framework was not current enough and the software installation for 1Password 6 kept failing on my Windows desktop. After updating my "important" updates, which I thought would solve the problem...it did not. I finally noticed that there was an optional update that needed to be downloaded as well and that seemed to resolve that issue and I was able to install the 1Password 6 for Windows. Instead of using the QR code, I simply logged in using my credentials and saw all of my logins (but no other categories). Since my 1Password is connected using Dropbox, I decided to uninstall Dropbox on my system and see if a fresh download would solve the issue. It appears that it did. When I tried to use Chrome to login to one of secured sites, that site no longer appeared in the browser extension (nor did a few hundred others), but did in the 1Password software file on my desktop. At this point I decided to delete the extension from Chrome and download a fresh version. Once again, only 4 of my logins showed up. Since I last posted, I decided to manually add a new site with login credentials on my desktop and it did sync across all my devices. For some reason I am having the issue with the Chrome extension on my Windows based desktop. Hope this helps. Thank you.

@bourbonkurtz: Please don't blame yourself! This should be easier. And while we're working on making that a reality, I do apologize for the confusion and frustration, and your feedback on this is greatly appreciated! Thanks for hanging in there!

One thing to keep in mind is that the new 1Password 6 Windows desktop app doesn't require the Dropbox client to be installed on your PC; it's able to connect to Dropbox directly. So if you're not using Dropbox for other things, it's no problem to go without it.

I'm sorry that I'm a bit unclear as to where you're still having trouble. It sounds like you're only seeing a handful of logins in 1Password on your PC, and that you have more on other devices. Is that the case, and are you experiencing any other issues? We'll get this sorted out!

As for the Windows app, please unlock it, and then also login to 1Password.com. View All Vaults in each, and let me know if the data matches. I wonder if you simply have additional vaults (not part of your 1Password Account) setup on your other devices with the data you're not seeing in 1Password for Windows. Double check to make sure that you're seeing not only the same data on each device (and in the browser), but that the list of vaults matches too, otherwise there will be discrepancies. Let me know what you find!

Thank you for reaching out to me as well. I will try and answer everything as well as I can.

I'm sorry that I'm a bit unclear as to where you're still having trouble. It sounds like you're only seeing a handful of logins in 1Password on your PC, and that you have more on other devices. Is that the case, and are you experiencing any other issues? **You are partially correct in your understanding. I can see all of my logins and other categories on all of my devices (including the PC Desktop) when I open 1Password 6 on each device. The problem is that when I try to use Google Chrome to access the secure website, only 4 logins are showing available rather than several hundred. This is only happening on my PC Desktop. I use Google Chrome on my MacBook Pro and all of my logins show up in the Chrome Extension for 1Password 6.
    **

I followed your instructions and opened the PC Desktop app for 1Password 6 and all of my logins and other categories show up here. When I login to 1Password.com and view all vaults, I only see my logins and none of the categories. In addition, it looks like I am missing 8 logins in my "All Vaults" compared to what is showing up in logins for my PC Desktop app.

On a side note, when I click on All Vaults for my PC Desktop app it shows my Personal Vault where everything currently is, my Shared Vault which I currently have empty and under Dropbox it shows (2) 1Password accounts that appear to be identical, and they are the ones showing only 4 Logins in addition to my other categories. So what it seems like is that the Google Chrome extension is pulling from that instead of "All Vaults". Hope this makes sense.

  • Hi @bourbonkurtz,

Thanks for this explanation. It helps a lot. Can you please tell us which version of 1Password 6 for Windows you're using exactly?
Click on the gear icon (Settings) and at the bottom of the drop-down, there's a version number, "6.0.something"

    Thanks

    It shows 6.0.252d

  • That's very useful information @bourbonkurtz.

You're using the lastest version but something isn't syncing right or the data isn't in the right place.
