Move to vault option and forgetting current vault context is frustrating

I've just created a new shared vault that I wish to move some logins from another vault to. The current experience for this is painful:

  • Select [Source Vault]
  • Find login
  • Right click > Copy item > [Target Vault]
  • App resets to All Vaults view
  • Select [Source Vault] again
  • Find login
  • Move to trash
  • App resets to All Vaults view
  • Repeat

Not only does the process exhibit a lot of redundant steps it's also very difficult to work through if there's a large list as per my current task. I have to make a note of which login I was moving so I know where to go to move to trash and at the same time note the next one I want to work on. If the selected vault remained selected and if there were a "Move item" option as well as copy this would be much easier. Or if the available vaults were listed in the sidebar and items could be dragged into them would also be a nice visual approach.

Generally, the dismissing of the selected vault context after every action is a really jarring experience when doing any sort of housekeeping.

    Hi @danmoov2,

    Thanks for writing in.

We absolutely agree, this is one of the most annoying aspect of using 1Password 6 Beta right now and this will be properly addressed in the very near future.

The reason this is happening is because it is the default action when there's no extra handling for each action you take. In other words, when you make a change, the app needs to reload the database to show you the updated data, which means without extra handling to take you to the right place, it defaults to resetting to the default view, All Vaults.

In addition to forgetting the context, I wonder why there is no 'move to vault' option in 1Password for Windows Beta? I have this option on macOS, and on Windows it is currently annoying that I have to copy and then find the old item again (and check that it is the one in the old vault), and then delete it there. Will a Move option in addition to the Copy option be added in the near future?

  • Hi @timpeeters,

Yes, it will be added in the near future, we haven't gotten around to implement it yet.

@MikeT, I'm still seeing this behavior 6 months later. It happens whether I'm copying to another vault, or Moving to Trash (BTW we need to get a keyboard shortcut for this please!). It's especially frustrating when I have a filter applied to the list, and I delete/copy a login, then the filter goes away. Interestingly, the search phrase is still present in the search bar, but it's not until I modify the search terms that it re-applies whatever filter to the list. Any update on these?

  • Hi @tralston,

    Thanks for writing in.

No updates, we're making adjustments in each update but we haven't gotten to the stage where we can reduce the refreshes entirely. 1Password 6.5 that was released today has gone through more refactoring to improve this but it is not fully optimized yet to know what to do in each instance.

As for the keyboard shortcut for deleting an item, we have plans to do this as soon as we add a confirmation dialog to confirm the deletion.

@MikeT Thanks for the transparency in your development. I know you can't do everything at once. It really helps impatient customers like me to know a little bit of what's going on behind the curtain ;)

  • Hi @tralston,

You're welcome and feel free to ask any questions about anything here, we are usually transparent about our development here. Of course, we can't promise any new features or share the future roadmap but we can explain why it is not here yet or other things.
