Pain points for new 1Password user
I recently switched to 1Password for Families after using eWallet since 2003. Overall, I'm really enjoying 1Password and its cloud/family capabilities. But I'd like to request some love/attention for:
Full Text Search - I know it's been requested at least here, here, here, and here since March 2016. But I really miss this from eWallet because I imported hundreds of items, and they're not tagged or named well. :-)
Stop going to "All Vaults" after every action - This has been requested elsewhere today, so I know you're aware of it. It's just frustrating to have Vaults as the only "scope" (i.e., no folders) but then have the UI constantly jump back to the global scope. It's not a great experience when trying to migrate lots of items from an imported eWallet vault to Personal or Shared vaults.
Those are definitely my top two pain points by an order of magnitude, but it would also be nice to have a way to show multiple 1Password windows (e.g., side-by-side) to make migration tasks easier. Now I just have Copy Item, which loses its scope (and goes to All Vaults) after every copy operation. Any help in merging/migrating/managing/de-duping items across multiple vaults would be nice. Also, since the eWallet importer just made its best guess for each item type, it would be nice if there was a way to change item types easily.
I've added a shortcut to 1Password to my desktop, but it gets invalidated every time I install a new 1Password update. After an update the shortcut won't run 1Password, and I have to recreate the shortcut. A related thing happens with a shortcut pinned to my Windows 10 start menu. I make it small, but then after a 1Password update Windows deletes the small icon and recreates it as a medium size icon down at the bottom of my start menu. That icon still works at least, but it's not in its original position. It would be nice if running an updated installer didn't invalidate all 1Password shortcuts like this.
Overall, I'm very pleased with 1Password and with the Windows Beta. I'm a software developer myself, so I know everything takes more time to implement than we'd like. But maybe this request will get a +1 added to the "Full Text Search" and "Remember the vault scope" tasks at least. :-)
1Password Version: 6.0.245d
Extension Version: 4.6.1.90
OS Version: Windows 10 Anniversary Update
Sync Type: 1Password for Families

Ok, first things first, @bmenees: Thank you for the time you took to write up this excellent feedback. We truly appreciate it.

Yup, this is coming but we don't have a timeline for this right now. I have so much stuff saved in 1Password, I could use the ability to find something using a half-remembered fragment of a particular item, as well :)

Coming. I can't say much more than that. There's still a need to do this type of refresh but we're working on eliminating it. Sorry for the inconvenience.

That one's interesting and we actually already have rudimentary multi-instance support in 1Password 6. There are a good number of issues with it though, like not being able to copy items between instances and seeing the other instance update automatically. I've pinged our developers on this since it's really useful when doing database clean-ups but this is not a high priority to us at the moment.

That's coming in the future as well. We call this the
Security Audit
and we're hoping to bring this feature to the app sooner rather than later.
ref: OPW6 #84Also, since the eWallet importer just made its best guess for each item type, it would be nice if there was a way to change item types easily.
Item types can't be changed because they contain standardised fields. If an item has been sorted incorrectly, you'll have to move the information to a new item manually. And yes, we know that this is another place where running multiple instances of 1Password 6 would be really helpful.

That's a known issue with the MSI installer that our developers are working on.

+1
to all of these items on your behalf :)If you have more feedback or if you stumble across bug, don't hesitate to write us again. We love getting feedback like this.
Cheers,
Alex
