Cannot run 1Password 6 Beta
I have just downloaded the Beta app, and when I launch it, it tells me an update is available. The Update now button takes me to the Windows app store, which tells me the Beta is unavailable at the moment.
This app has been in development for a long, long time, and the ongoing lack of Family support in Windows is now causing me to look for alternatives :-(

Hi @amertner,
Thanks for writing in and I'm sorry you're having issues trying to find the right download link. If you're using a PC, don't download 1Password from the Windows Store, instead, download it from the Get the apps page in your 1Password.com account. You can also find the latest version from here: https://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/64591/help-us-welcome-1password-6-for-windows-to-our-family#latest
We do apologize about the roundabout update thing you just experienced, that's not normal. I'm surprised the Windows Store didn't take you to the right app in the first place, it sounded like it installed the very old 1Password Beta app that has been removed from the store and this app had the update prompt to take you to the later 1Password app in the store. Unfortunately, the Windows Store has limitations in how we can replace apps with different names, that's why there was this roundabout setup initially. It would only occur for folks who tried our alpha builds in the very beginning.

Hi @MikeT - thanks for your quick weekend reply!
I did indeed install that old Beta, but thought it was so far from what I needed that I didn't use it.
Following your note, I took the time to uninstall the old 1Password 6, again downloaded the one from the link, and launched it. When I start it, it again tells me there is a new version available: Clicking update now shows a blue progress bar at the bottom of the screen. When that finishes, it launches an .msi installer that I allow to run, after which nothing happens - I assume the app failed or crashed.
Looking in the Windows event log may provide a clue: it contains an Error entry:
Product: 1Password 6 -- Error 1316. The specified account already exists. Is this perhaps because it conflicts with the remains of the old installation? Any idea how to fix it?

Hi @amertner,
Yes, that's an error that shows up if you originally installed a previous version and it is having a hard time removing it.
Try this:
- Open Control Panel and select the Uninstall Programs option
- Uninstall all traces of 1Password you see here. Uninstalling 1Password won't remove its data, so this is safe to do
- Reboot your PC, sometime pending Windows updates being installed in the background can interfere with the installation process, a reboot should fix this
- Click here to the latest version, it'll download the MSI file. Click on it to run the installer, it should install it without any errors hopefully.
