Accessibility: NVDA freezes in any 1Password 6 password field

When attempting to use later versions of the 1Password 6 for Desktop betas, as soon as I type something in any password field, the NVDA screen reader freezes. Narrator, on the other hand, is able to handle the password fields well. I am using NVDA with a braille display, and according to the log entries I get, this might play a part, so the problem may be hard to reproduce without one.

I filed an issue against NVDA for this.

Perhaps you'd like to follow along and proviide insight into the password field type you use in 1Password 6 so this problem can be fixed quickly. :-)

1Password Version: 6.0.269
Extension Version: 4.6.2.b1
OS Version: Windows 10 2016.07
Sync Type: 1Password Family

  • Hey Marco,

Thanks for reaching out. We're going to test this as soon as possible.

It appears this is a regression in the current NVDA Next snapshots. The official release 2016.3, released in August, is not affected, and 1Password 6 works fine there. The development snapshots for NVDA can be found here.

  • Hi @MarcoZ,

Thanks for an update, we're keeping an eye on your GitHub issue. Let us know if there's anything we can do to help.

It sounds like they're saying it may have been caused by a Windows 10 update.

    Hi everyone!

I am happy to report that this issue has been marked as resolved closed on the NVDA side. 1Password 6 and NVDA play great together again, and this fix will also go into the next major release due end of November, as it looks now.

  • Hi @MarcoZ,

That's great to hear, thanks for reporting the issue to NVDA and for keeping us updated on this.
