Odd state after upgrade attempt

I just tried to update from 6.0.269d to 6.1.272 from within the app. The update installs, 1Password reopens, but it wanted me to sign in again. I tried to select a QR code but couldn't paste it after copying from browser so I tried to save the QR code and open it, but the app's file browser pointed to C:\windows\system32 and the "local" profile under quick links was connecting to c:\users\systemdata or something similar (I don't remember the exact value), but definitely not my user profile folder and there were no files there. I ended up exiting the app entirely from the tray and reopening from my Start Menu shortcut. This let me log back in as if nothing had changed...and it hadn't. I was still on 6.0.269d, and the update still shows up in Options (have to re-enter my beta email though, it didn't save it for the first or second tries).

I instead went to my email and used the beta download link and installed the MSI directly, and that seems to have upgraded successfully to 6.1.272d just fine, which is running now, but I wanted to report the odd built-in upgrade issue.

Also, when I just unlocked Mini after the upgrade, it showed a list of items that appeared to be the encrypted versions of the strings for about 3-4 seconds in the Mini list. It refreshed and displayed the correct values after that time, so I assume it was displaying the encrypted versions as placeholders prior to decryption, but that might freak some people out if they think their data is scrambled--probably better to display a "please wait" message until the data is decrypted in this case. It wasn't very long, just long enough that someone might start to freak out. I believe this happened once before earlier this week with the previous version, though I was traveling and on my host's guest network so I attributed it to a networking delay--today I'm on a network I run when it happened again, with the latest version. I can try to take a screenshot if it happens again but it's pretty fast.

Anyway, none of that is stopping my use of the app, working great! I know it's getting pretty polished! Other than non-login browser filling (which is rarely important to me), the only other big thing I'm missing is the ability to define the contents of "all vaults" to be only the vaults I want.

Note that the "encrypted" text shown in 1Password Mini that I mentioned resembles the screenshot provided in https://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/70543/item-titles-encryted-without-internet-connection by @Manaburner. I have not tested an unlock with no Internet connection at all to see if the encrypted text doesn't resolve given no Internet access, but the delay I see before it rights itself certainly could be network lag.

  • Thanks @dszp , we are investigating. From the first impressions version bump triggered some unexpected setup cycle.

  • Thanks for ringing the bell @dszp , indeed autostarting 1Password from installer started it under system profile and that caused confusion. We've disabled autostart at setup time for now.

That seems to have fixed the issue over the last several updates and relaunching isn't a big deal. Thanks!

  • That's great to hear, thanks for letting us know. Hopefully, we'll restore the auto-restart feature soon.
