1password mini pops up on primary monitor only

I'm using the latest 1Password 6.1.272d and noticed a change in the behaviour how 1Password mini pops up.

Previously, when I clicked on the 1Pwd icon in Firefox 1pwd mini would just pop up under that button but now it pops up at the edge of my primary monitor instead if the browser window is in my secondary monitor. If the browser is in my primary window then it works as before. This change started a few releases ago.

I'm using Firefox 49.0.1.

Cheers
M

1Password Version: 6.1.272d
Extension Version: 4.6.1
OS Version: Windows 7 Enterprise
Sync Type: Family

Just realised that maybe I should have posted this in the Windows beta forum. Please move my post, if necessary.

@m_w: I'm sorry for the trouble! While this has affected some folks on 1Password 4, this is the first report I've heard with 1Password 6. I thought we'd avoided that!

I'll relocate your post, and also if you can provide some additional details I'd really appreciate it. What display adapter are you using? Are you using the built-in drivers from Windows, or custom drivers from the vendor? Are all monitors being treated as a single display, or do you have all of them shown individually in Windows display settings? Are you using some other app to manage your displays? Can you pinpoint which release the problem started for you? Thanks in advance!

Ok - let me try and get these details; not sure what exactly your after on some but here we go:
I have an old and a new work laptop (just got it replaced on TUE), so I give you details of both. It's working fine with the old laptop but this is using an older version of 1Pwd
What display adapter are you using? old: NVS 5200M, new: Intel HD Graphics 530
Are you using the built-in drivers from Windows, or custom drivers from the vendor? old: Nvidia 8.17.12.9679, new: Intel Corporation 20.19.15.4483
Are all monitors being treated as a single display, or do you have all of them shown individually in Windows display settings? old and new: extended desktop
Are you using some other app to manage your displays? old: NVIDIA Control Panel, new: Intel HD Graphics Control Panel
Can you pinpoint which release the problem started for you? not exactly, but I know it's still working in 6.0.252d on my old laptop and it's not working on my new on running 6.1.272d; I also know it didn't work on the new laptop using the version before 6.1.272d (I usually check daily for updates)

Hi @m_w thanks for the detailed description.

I've managed to reproduce the issue to some degree with my Surface Pro 2 in "Extend" mode for the secondary display.
For me, 1Password mini doesn't show up on the primary monitor when I click the button in a Firefox window on the secondary monitor, instead it just flickers quickly and disappears.
We're going to investigate this further.

Cheers and have a great weekend!

In my case, 1Pwd mini shows up properly and is fully usable when it shows incorrectly on the primary monitor. BTW, I've tried it now with Chrome and there the 1Pwd mini pops up correctly on the secondary monitor.

    Hi @m_w,

Yea, the inconsistency is what's confusing us, we'll continue to investigate to see what's causing this.

The 1Password mini should always be showing up next to your mouse cursor, regardless of what monitor you're using.

Please do keep writing in any odd things you see, so we can figure out the pattern, it'd help a lot.

I noticed a few more things:

    1. Usually, I have my Firefox window maximised on the secondary monitor but when I move the Firefox window further down then 1Pwd mini will still show up on the primary but the top of 1Pwd mini is aligned with the 1Pwd button in Firefox, i.e. where the mouse currently is
    2. When I shrink the Firefox window size and move it away far enough from the edge where the primary and secondary monitor are joined then 1Pwd mini pops up correctly on the secondary monitor; my primary and secondary monitor are set-up so that the primary is on the left, the secondary on the right and they are aligned across the top
    3. This explains why it works under Chrome since there the 1Pwd button is on the far right of the browser window which is furthest away from the edge where the primary and secondary monitor join
    4. If I move the Chrome browser window sufficiently towards that joining edge then 1Pwd mini pops up on the primary monitor

So the key is how far way 1Pwd mini button and therefore the mouse is from that joining edge.

  • Hey @m_w,

Thanks for this. We'll do some more tests and try to figure out what is going on here.

    Cheers,

    Alex
