Extension with Windows Beta
I recently signed up for 1password for families. I also have the existing 1pasword app for windows ( 4.6.0.604). Cleaning up my regular version of 1pass before migrating it all to families.
I have both the regular browser extension and the beta extension (from Chrome store) running. But, they both use the production V4 of 1password. Is there a way to have both extensions running but the beta connects to V6 beta of 1pass?

Hi @Imt,
That's not possible, the extension itself has no preference as to what version of 1Password to connect to, all it knows is to check for an available port that 1Password Helper (4) or 1Password mini (6) will be running on. You cannot use one extension to connect to a specific version, both versions will run on the same ports. This ensures that the same 1Password extension will support all versions of 1Password on both macOS and Windows platforms.
What you can do instead is terminate 1Password 4's Helper, so that 1Password 6 will retake the local ports and thus the extension will connect to 1Password 6's mini instead.
Depending on your Windows version, here's how: Open up Task manager and look for the 1Password (32-bit) process with the white lock icon, select it and press End Task. Once you do this, restart your browser and you should now see 1Password mini show up.
Also, we do not recommend running more than one instance of 1Password extension in the same browser, this won't work well. The browser extensions does not have its own UI or data, it communicates securely in the background to 1Password Helper/mini and the latter will render the native UI and manage the data for you.
By the way, I'm not sure if you know this but you can open the same local vault from 1Password 4 in 1Password 6 and migrate your data at your own pace. This means that you can uninstall 1Password 4 and have both sets of data in the same 1Password 6 app, note that uninstalling 1Password desktop apps does not remove your 1Password data.

Thanks Mike.
I sort of forgot I can have both in the same instance of 1password 6. Its like that on my mac, but in that case, the software already supported both versions so I never had to give it a second thought :). So, will do that now.
But... I do have some questions on the extension (beta) before I take the plunge.
1) What is the difference between the beta version of the extension vs. the current production version? Is it just to connect to 1pass 6 beta or are there other enhancements?
2) With the beta extension and 1pass 6 beta, are you now able to see/use "ALL VAULTS" like you can on the mac extension? Or do you still have to log into each and every valut in the extension to find/use a password that may reside in one of the vaults?

Hi @Imt,
1) What is the difference between the beta version of the extension vs. the current production version? Is it just to connect to 1pass 6 beta or are there other enhancements?
The main purpose of the extension is to facilitate the data filling onto the web sites to log you in and to save new Login items into your 1Password's database. The beta version of the extension will come with improvements to fill or save data better and this is all internal.
Just to be clear, both 1Password 4 and 6 for Windows (and macOS) reuses the same 1Password extension with no code changes, there is no specific extension version for specific version of 1Password.
We often ask people to use the beta version of the 1Password extension to test a filling issue and/or a potential issue with the integration between 1Password extension and the main 1Password app.
All of the differences in how you use the extension are in the 1Password program itself. So, if you were using 1Password extension version 4.6.1, you'd get the 1Password Helper UI if you have 1Password 4 for Windows installed and automatically the 1Password mini as soon as you switch to 1Password 6 for Windows. In fact, if you manage to switch to 1Password 6 for Mac, you'd get its mini view.
2) With the beta extension and 1pass 6 beta, are you now able to see/use "ALL VAULTS" like you can on the mac extension?
Yes, that's a core feature in 1Password 6 for Windows, it supports All Vaults just like the macOS version of 1Password and thus, 1Password mini in 1Password 6 will also let you view all vaults.

So, I had this working for a while and now the extension connects to 1password 4 instead of 1password6. I am running 6.1.308d. I checked task manager and the only 1password related things running are: agile1pAgent.exe and Agilebits.Onepassword.desktop.exe
I tried removing the extension and adding it back in. Included the beta builds. I removed the extension and re-started chrome and added the extension back and still pulls up 1password4

Hi @Imt,
If you keep 1Password 4 installed, any time you restart the computer or update 1Password 4, its Helper will run and the extension will connect to it instead. You'd have to terminate
Agile1pAgent.exe
each time you want to use 1Password 6 in your browsers. If you really need to have both 1Password versions installed, please read this guide to block 1Password 4 from starting up on reboots but you will have to do this each time you update 1Password 4 as it will fix itself.
