1Password 6 Beta update won't install on Windows 7. Possibly need to install as admin?

I've installed 1Password 6 Beta on my Windows 7 system but had to do the install as Administrator to get it to complete. Now I get an update message every time I start the app, but the system won't let me complete the install. If I click Update Now, the installer initiates and starts to load files (the green bar moves left to right) but after a few seconds it moves right to left and the window closes, leaving me with my original version of 1Password. I'm wondering if I need to make the update using admin privileges and can't do so through the auto-updater. Any thoughts appreciated! I also wouldn't mind simply downgrading out of the beta, but that didn't seem to be an option.

@cel_fog: I'm sorry for the trouble! The installer does require admin rights. Please uninstall 1Password from Control Panel > Add & Remove Programs, and then install the current version:

I hope this helps. Please let me know how it turns out! :)

  • Hi @cel_fog,

The program doesn't need admin rights but the installer does, it will ask for it during the setup properly but you should not run anything as an admin by default.

In addition, your issue might be related to an outdated .NET framework installed that will cause the setup to fail and revert you back to the previous installed build. Please try this:

    1. First, uninstall the current version via Control Panel > Remove Programs as Brenty mentioned
    2. Download and install the latest .NET 4.6.2 version here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53344
    3. Reboot the computer and then install 6.1.296d from here: https://1password.com/downloads/
