Two different installers? AgileBits.OnePassword.Desktop-6.1.296 (1).msi and 1Password-4.6.1.616.exe

I got a new computer, and I downloaded this installer: AgileBits.OnePassword.Desktop-6.1.296 (1).msi from https://1password.com/downloads/.
The user interfaced looked very different from what I used to have, and the Edit button or the +New button were not active. Was this legit or did I download a fake app?
I then downloaded 1Password-4.6.1.616.exe (from https://agilebits.com/downloads), and now everything looks as it used to on my old computer. I just wonder if what I downloaded earlier was a different verion of your app, or whether I ended up in a fake site.

  • Hi @micaela_novas,

    Thanks for writing in.

These are legit files and sites. What you're seeing are two separate things we sell; our cloud-based subscription service on 1Password.com with the compatible apps for it and the standalone with local vaults programs on AgileBits.com with 1Password 4 for Windows that doesn't support 1Password.com service.

1Password 6 does not support local vault files yet, that's why you can't edit anything for these vaults but you can unlock and read them. If you are not planning to use 1Password.com service, than your best option right now is 1Password 4.

We are going to add full local vault support to 1Password 6, so that it's the same app for everyone but we don't have a timeframe on this.

By the way, 1Password 4 is offered as a separate download link on the https://1password.com/downloads/, it's slightly hidden below the blue Download button for Windows.

Totally get it! Thanks for explaining. I was concerned that I had been using some kind of fake app for a few days (which still contained all my information!). I appreciate the prompt response! I love 1Password 4 (I wasn't too keen on the UI or my interaction with 1Password 6, I must say. Maybe due to what I perceived "bugs" in the system.). Thanks again for your prompt response.

  • Hi @micaela_novas,

You're welcome and you're right to be concerned, it is a valid risk to see a strange app out of nowhere.

As for 1Password 6, it is slightly a young app. We're continuously working on it and if you give us some time, it will get much better.
