1P6, Win10, Chrome: Many issues
Hi there
I have been using 1Password for years and was very satisfied. TodayI got my new Surface Book and when I tried to download/install 1Password I noticed that 1Password now comes in the version 6 and as subscription model only. Since I like the product I have subscribed for it and installed it on my Surface Book (Win10, Chrome). However, I have a lot of troubles with the Chrome extension:
- "Options" not working. I click on it but nothing happens
- The drop down list is empty on unknown sites, and on known sites it only contains the entry for the respective site.
- With 1P3 and 1P4 I got login information when I was hovering over the drop down list's entries. This doesn't work anymore. I have to right click instead, but even then it is not possible to view e.g. the account name.
- Drop down list entries like "Credit Cards" or "Password Generator" are gone with 1P6
This is very bad and I wonder if there's a way I can get back 1P4, which was working like a charm. Since I have a subscription, I can only find 1P6 which shows lots of issues (and this is something that I haven't noticed with 1Password in the past).
Please help me.
1Password Version: 6.1.308
Extension Version: 4.6.2.90
OS Version: Win 10
Sync Type: Dropbox

@Parallaxe: Congratulations on the Surface Book! The hinge thing weirds me out still, but it's a sweet piece of hardware. :sunglasses:
Just to clarify, we still offer 1Password 4 so if you prefer the license you can continue to use that. The subscription service, which uses 1Password 6, offers a lot of benefits that a standalone license doesn't have though, (since it will give you access to all of the apps, the web interface, and does away with license management and sync configuration altogether — you simply login to your account to authorize a device and access your data), but I wanted to make it clear that both options are available.

Can you be more specific on where you're running into this issue?
The drop down list is empty on unknown sites, and on known sites it only contains the entry for the respective site.
This is something we'll continue to improve (categories, etc.), but for now you can type in the search field to locate other items.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "account name" (I was thinking "username", but that is available via right-click), and on your workflow here in general? It may be something we can incorporate into the design as we iterate.

For now, searching will work. But as I mentioned above, categories are definitely a priority.

Indeed. We'll be continuing to improve the new 1Password 6 Windows desktop app we're building. As you've rightly pointed out though, the new app isn't as mature as 1Password 4, so you can continue to use that if you prefer it. You can download the standalone 1Password 4 app from our site. Let me know if I can help! :)

Hi brenty
Thanks for your reply.
1) 1Password4
If I download and use 1Password4, do I have to purchase it again/as well? Or can I use it within my existing subscription plan? How do I get a serial/license key for 1Password 4 in order to use it on my new machine?2) Options
When selecting this, nothing happens:3) Account name / Hovering (Screenshot from my Mac/Chrome installation)
See the following screenshot. Yes, you are right, in 1P6 I can right click on the entry and then select to copy e.g. the password. BUT ... in 1P4 I don't have to right click (hovering over the entry is sufficient), I can see the account name (in 1P6 it is not visible, only "copy-able") and I can even view the password (this is not possible in 1P6 at all).P.S.: The Surface Book has some minor flaws, but in general it's finally an "Apple-like" hardware with native Windows running on it. Plus touch. Plus pen. Plus tablet mode. Plus laptop mode. Plus proper USB ports. I'm loving it (-;

Hey @Parallaxe,
Thanks for writing in with your clarification and screenshots.
- No, 1Password 4 is not included in the subscription because it has no way of accessing a 1Password.com account but if you already had a 1Password for Windows licence you can continue using it.
- That's peculiar. Can you please close the app via the notification area icon and relaunch it. Does this help? if it doesn't, please reinstall the app by downloading the latest version (the one you already have installed) from our site.
- That's one of the improvements Brenty was talking about. We're looking to make the look and feel of 1Password across platforms as consistent as possible. If you allow me, though, let me be a Korinthenkacker for a moment :) and tell you that hovering and waiting for a menu to appear on the Mac actually takes longer than right-clicking the item in 1Password mini on Windows and copying the desired value.
P.S.: All true! If Microsoft had allowed me to buy the new Surface Book with Performance Base in Germany at the same time as the US, I'd have bought it in a heartbeat. Such a great device.

Hi there
Thanks a lot for your replies. I highly appreciate the friendly and quick support that you guys give us here. I also like the concepts of 1P6 and its fair subscription model. I'm sure it will mature over time and will finally become a fantastic product. But for my purposes it's currently just not mature enough to be used on Win10. Hence, I have just cancelled my subscription and went back to my most beloved 1P4.
Nevertheless, thanks for your fantastic support, guys. And keep up the good work with 1P6. I'm counting on you! (-;
