Adding a "fill" and/or "fill & go" Option in Context Menu of Matched Logins

I hope this feature exists in 1P4 (never used it) so that it can be ported to 1P6. Anyway, in 1P6 for Windows, the desired feature is this:

Open a web page, click on 1password icon to call up mini UI and show matched logins. Right click on a matched login, there should be an option to "fill" or "fill & go".

My current setting is fill & go by default, but from time to time, I would want to fill - modify - go. Adding a "fill" option would make this a lot easier. Then, if a "fill" option can be added, then "fill & go" option should also be implemented, for other users who has fill & go disabled but would like to occasionally fill & go on certain website.

Currently, there is this copy either username or password option in the context menu, but it is less ideal compared to a dedicated "fill" option.

Is this something that exists in 1P4 but not yet added to 1P6?

  • Hi @cs88rf,

    Thanks for writing in.

This doesn't exist in any 1Password versions as an option because we handle this differently but we might consider it in a future update. For now, here's how this work:

    1. When you bring up 1Password mini by clicking on the 1Password icon, you only get the list of matched items. Clicking on any one of them will do a fill. If you type for the item's title, then 1Password mini switches to the database mode, any Login item you select in this mode will open it in new tab.
    2. Pressing the Control + \ shortcut is for filling an item right away or if you have more than one item, it shows you the UI to select. If you press Control + Alt + \, it brings up 1Password mini in the database mode and open any Login item you select in a new tab.

In the near future, 1Password mini will be getting updates to complete its design to show both in the same view, the matching items on top and the item categories, password generator and tags on the bottom. In addition, settings to open items in the current tab, new tab or new window, and more as well.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using keyboard shortcut, and most of time I enjoy the auto submit, so I have that enabled by default. Occasionally the form is not filled correctly (just migrated from another product so some forms are not right) or if I need to change a check box, that's when I would want the fill+go to br temporarily disabled, hence a "fill" option would be very convenient. Anyway, it's good to know that it's under consideration!

BTW, just suggestion for a minor issue. The {built-in) update feature for the app should probably start 1password automatically or give a notice of successful install after the installation is finished. Last time I updated from non-beta to beta and this time to 6.3.360, the install finishes and nothing further happens, which may confuse some people ;)

  • Hi @cs88rf,

I apologize, I've misunderstood what you meant. You're talking about auto-submit, not Go and Fill. We have a feature called Go and Fill where if you're not on the site already, you can select an item in 1Password mini and 1Password will go there to fill. Fill vs. Go and Fill does auto-submit the same way.

We usually have a shortcut in 1Password 4 where if you press Alt while you select an item, it bypasses the submission. There will be an update in the future where you can turn off auto-submit selectively for specific items. We'll add the shortcut for Alt as well.

Thanks that would be very helpful! I am aware of Go and Fill but sorry I used vague term. It used to be called Fill and Submit in my previous manager and somehow I typed Fill and Go

You're welcome. We'll get this added as soon as possible.
