1Password 4 or 6 for Windows?

Hi, I'm new to 1Password and have had a bit of a nightmare with it. I use Chrome and IE 11 on Windows PC and I'd like 1Password to work on both browsers. This is because I use Outlook Web Access on IE. I downloaded and installed what I thought was the right version - v6. But I was unable to install a browser extension for IE and couldn't find the extension on your main site. I was prompted to download Safari extension. (It all works fine on Chrome btw.) After a lot of reading this forum and some fiddling round I ended up downloading 1Password 4. This installed the extension for IE however it wouldn't recognise the v6 account and data already set up. It would allow me only to set up a new account. I.e. fairly useless. So I gave up on that. The issue seems to be getting v6 working with IE. There seems no way. And yes I have got command bar showing and add the relevant add on. As above this only works for v4, not 6. Thanks for your help.

    Hi tylerpaul,
The fundamental difference between 1Password v4 vs v6 is that v4 uses local vaults and v6 uses cloud vaults. One can import data from v4 local vault to v6, but not vise versa. And 1Passvord v4 has no idea about cloud vaults. So, it is almost impossible to migrate back from v6 to v4 (I mean your saved data), except for manually copying each item.
1Password v6 is quite new implementation, created from scratch, using most of up-to-date features. It shouldn't be a surprise that it doesn't support IE, when Microsoft itself quit supporting it. We are working on plug-in for Edge browser, however I can't say when exactly it will be released - there are some issues out of our direct influence.
I hope my reply will help you with understanding, though I can't help you with resolving your issue with IE browser in a reasonable way.
If you have additional questions, do not hesitate to continue this topic.

    Just a curiosity.
What prevents you from using Outlook Web access in different browser?
If you mean cloud-based MS Outlook service, it works absolutely the same in any browser (I just tried Chrome and FF).

OK thanks for that. I'm stuck in a depressing world of IE for now but I can see why you wouldn't bother supporting given the move to Edge. Last time I looked Edge didn't support the FULL version of OWA, only the light version. Chrome also only supports the light version of OWA. The full version is much more like the client of MS Outlook, whereas the light is a v clunky old fashioned email browser experience. I'm a bit stuck though as my company uses MS Outlook and I work remotely. Anyway thanks for the reply.

@tylerpaul: I hear you. We may revisit IE in the future if and when we have the resources to commit to it, but honestly by that time it may be even less relevant so I don't want to get your hopes up. I didn't realize that Edge didn't have full Outlook support though, so that you for brining that up. Edge is shaping up to be a great browser, and it's already good enough for most people, but of course it is only available on Windows 10. I suspect Microsoft is anxious to get it working better with Outlook though. I'm sorry this puts you in an awkward position, but there are other great browsers that are supported, and hopefully you can get by with copying and pasting from 1Password mini in cases where you must use IE.

Just one bit of feedback, your help/support pages should have more info on IE and Edge not (yet) being supported in version 6. It would have saved me some hassle.

Sorry for the hassle! I'm not sure it makes sense to have knowledgebase articles indicating the browsers we either don't support or don't yet (that would be a long list, since there are so many browsers out there), but it's certainly something we can consider. Thanks for the feedback!
